The cap numbers listed are there under the preseason rules where only the top 51 players on the active roster count towards the cap. When the regular season starts tomorrow, the salaries of all 53 players on the roster plus those on injured reserve and other reserve lists will count against the cap.

They need to move the teams out of Jax and KC…..

Jax is a joke, and KC hasn’t won a playoff game since 1993 – just not competitive.

Move them to a real city where the owner can spend the money they have at their disposal.

With the 1st game being Wednesday, 9/05 (and therefore, “at the launch of the regular season” … shouldn’t you have just given us the full 53 + reserved lists as they stand, right now? The numbers are less dramatic, but certainly more accurate, right?

What I find interesting is 13 teams have less cap room than the Redskins – including the Giants whose owner strong armed the league into stealing the Skins cap space.

Ah, four teams cheaper than the Bengals. Java by a ton. And when the Bengals extend Atkins and maybe Dunlop, will be many more teams cheaper.

Of the 8 top cap space teams. Guess which one made the playoffs. what’s wrong with the Rams, dolphins, and chargers?

I can’t believe that the Bills are one of the top 10 teams in lack of cap room; I’m pretty sure this is new for us. We’ll see if it’s worth it or not by about halfway through the season; hopefully our spending won’t be useless like the Redskins has been since shortly after their Superbowl victory over us in the early 90′s. Since almost every player is basically playing under an year to year contract these days, at least if this venture to spend to the cap fails, it can be semi-easily fixed by dumping either or both Fitzpatrick and Mario Williams if they don’t play to their contracts. Hopefully Williams plays well, as his contract has a really good bonus.

Nice job, Khan. You won the battle with MJD, but, may be in trouble for the long haul.

In the future, players will most certainly take the Jags money, but it likely will be the wrong players, with the wrong motives.

Ahhh..Bengals being smart leaving money to pay increasing salaries as the cap stays stagnant over the next few seasons. Teams in the 5-6M range could fall into problems keeping their current players on the roster by next season or the next. And they are definitely going to have problems extending the big salaries when it’s time. The Bengals have many young players, and quite a few of them have expiring rookie contracts after this season and the next. If they were being cheap they could’ve chosen not to roll over the 30M from last year. Which they did not have to.

Funny how it corresponds to how much cap room the Bengals held available to cover Carson Palmer’s salary while he played his little game of holdout chicken with them last year … & which then carried forward into this year’s number.
