The Dodgers included the real estate by the stadium, the stadium, and most importantly, the cash cow that is a TV network. Dodgers themselves were only about $800M.

But the real issue is, Man U LOSES money every year, all NFL teams make money.

….kinda like buying a billion dollar house, then re-mortgaging it, so you don’t have to put any money from your pocket into it.

They use the profits and cash flow to pay down the debt. The latest stock offering they had – 50% went to pay down debt, and 50% went…

…into their pockets.

Uh dude, hate to break it to you, but the Cowboys do not (repeat, NOT) own the stadium. The stadium is owned by the City of Arlington. The Cowboys have a lease. Do yourself a favor and learn BEFORE you speak.

And they aren’t even in the Top 25 for best teams in American Sports. You can even make the argument that they aren’t even in the Top 15 for best NFL teams. But I do think people need to ease up on Romo. For the most part he balls out and its not his fault they are losing. The Defense, Offensive Line and WRs need to step there game up before the Cowboys can become contenders.

These valuation exercises always crack me up. If some billionaire or a group of em wants a crappy team bad enough they will pay whatever it takes to get the team no matter how little or how much it is objectively valued.

By the way, Browns 28.7 million net on $258 million revenue. The Cowboys make ~10 times the money on ~double the revenue. If the Browns can fetch a billion bucks, the Cowboys could fetch $5 billion.

You should have read the article. “Last season the Cowboys generated $500 million in total revenue, a record for an American sports team, and posted operating income (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of $227 million, $108 million more than any other football team and more than either the entire National Basketball Association or National Hockey League.”

You would have also seen that the Packers had $43.1 million in net operating income on $276 million revenue.

That’s a LOT of money, to be sure.
But let’s say you’re a bajillionaire shopping around for an investment. You whip out your checkbook and scribble a check to buy the team from Jones. Using the $90m figure up there, it’s going to take about 20 years to even recover your investment, let alone see any profits.

The Tennessee truck-stop king probably overpaid significantly for the Browns, but I’ll bet the numbers made more sense at $1b than “America’s Team” would at $2.1b
