Getty ImagesThe most closely-guarded secret in NFL circles relates to the question of whether Cowboys tight end Jason Witten will play tonight against the Giants.
While no one in the know is talking on or off the record, some signs point to Witten playing.
We know he wants to play. As Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported earlier in the day, Witten is willing to sign a waiver to release the team’s doctors of any responsibility. The Cowboys reportedly rejected that offer.
Still, the Tuesday CT scan supposedly would be the final word on whether Witten would play. If Witten definitely isn’t playing, he should have been downgraded to out. It’s not a knee or an ankle or anything else that may act up during warmups. He either can play or he can’t.
And Witten made the trip to New York and the Cowboys didn’t activate an extra tight end from the practice squad and there still has been no final word on way or the other.
At this point, it could go either way. And that’s the way the Cowboys surely want it, since the Giants won’t know until the rest of us know.
Here’s more from today’s PFT Live, if you care. (And we know you don’t.)

Do the Giants really think he’s going to play? Do fans really think he’s going to play? Does Witten even think he’s going to be allowed to play?
Please stop the injury list shenanigans.
Come on, Witten. Why risk it?
Only cowboy I like…hope he’s back playing soon
