Cornerback Dominique Franks was one of the players sent packing when the Falcons made their way down to 53 players on Aug. 31.

Less than a week later, he’s back on the team’s roster. The Falcons have re-signed Franks, their fifth-round pick in 2010, and waived wide receiver Tim Toone with an injury to make room for him. Franks had 20 tackles and two interceptions for Atlanta in 2011.

In Frank’s brief period of unemployment, he paid visits to the Steelers, Chiefs and Dolphins. He said Thursday that he’s happy to be back in Atlanta, though.

“They wanted to bring me back and this is where I always wanted to be,” Franks said, via Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “It’s always good to be able to come back an reunite with the guys and the coaches. There are no hard feelings at all. I know it’s a business, so I just have to come in and prepare even harder and make sure that this doesn’t happen again.”

Franks saw time as a punt returner in the preseason, as did Toone, so he could be heading back to that role. Toone’s departure leaves the Falcons with four wide receivers on the active roster.
