Getty ImagesCowboys owner Jerry Jones doesn’t want to overreact to one game, but he could hardly hide his glee on Wednesday night after his team fulfilled his prophecy that they would “beat the Giants’ asses.”
Jones said the Cowboys proved their resilience in a hard-fought win over the defending champion, and he hinted that his players exceeded his expectations.
“What I didn’t say and didn’t know – would this team have the courage to play against a quality team like that, on the road, and have the courage to stay in there and win a ballgame?” Jones said. “And I really was concerned there late in the game that we were going to fool around here, get them to get back in it. But this bunch persevered. It was a very significant win for the franchise.”
In Jones’s view, the Cowboys were far from perfect, but showed that they’re winners.
“We made a lot of mistakes against a good team that maybe should have beaten us and didn’t because this bunch played and stayed the course,” Jones said.
After his bold prediction before the season, Jones has every reason to be happy this morning. His team backed up his words.
