The Panthers might be back down to a two-headed running back system.

Jonathan Stewart was held out of practice again Friday, and is questionable for Sunday’s opener at Tampa Bay with an ankle sprain, according to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Stewart was improving in his ability to cut, but Stewart didn’t say anything when asked about his chances for Sunday. Stewart hasn’t practiced since the Panthers evacuated to Florida to escape the Democratic National Convention.

Shed no tears for Rivera and Cam Newton, though.

They still have DeAngelo Williams and Mike Tolbert, though there’s a reasonable argument to be made that Stewart’s the best of the lot.

How they run won’t be as much of an indicator as how they stop the Bucs from doing same, however, so on the scale of problems, the Panthers have had bigger.
