APIn a piece of good news for Peyton Manning and bad news for Pittsburgh, linebacker James Harrison has reportedly been ruled out for the Steelers’ opener at Denver on Sunday night.
Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Harrison did not practice for second day in a row and will not play in Denver. Harrison has been experiencing soreness in his knee, and according to Dulac, Chris Carter will continue starting at the right outside linebacker position, where he started all four preseason games. The right outside linebacker is the player who will be rushing at Manning’s blind side in Manning’s first game back after missing all of 2011 with a neck injury.
The Steelers, however, have not officially ruled Harrison out, and he said after his teammates practiced today that he’d “definitely like to play.”
Still, Harrison acknowledged that his knee is bothering him enough that “if the game was today, I couldn’t play.” And it sounds like he won’t play Sunday, either.
