Bears add Armando Allen, place Lorenzo Booker on IR

Typically, a team deactivates a player that may not be available to suit up. The Bears on Saturday decided to shut him down for the year.

Running back Lorenzo Booker, questionable for the season opener with a head injury, has been placed on injured reserve. The Bears announced the move Saturday afternoon.

Replacing him on the roster is running back Armando Allen, who was elevated from the practice squad.

Linebacker Patrick Trahan also was waived, putting the roster at 52.

The decision to part ways with Trahan makes little sense, given that he already will be paid for Week One. Unless the Bears plan to sign someone else before Sunday, it’s hard not to wonder whether Trahan did something he shouldn’t have done.

UPDATE 4:21 p.m. ET: As initially announced by the Bears, Booker had been released. In a corrected announcement, the Bears explained that Booker was placed on injured reserve.
