Eagles lead the way in regular-season cap space

Back when the Eagles were knocking on the door but failing to kick it in, some around the league joked that, if the NFL gave out the Lombardi Trophy based on salary-cap management, the Eagles would win it every year.

They’d definitely win it this year.

With $21.4 million in space when all 53 players, the practice squad, and any players on reserve lists are included in a formula that previously focused only on the 51 highest-paid players, the Eagles have the most room to work with.

Yes, the Eagles. After re-signing receiver DeSean Jackson and running back LeSean McCoy and defensive end Trent Cole and offensive lineman Todd Herremans in 2012 and making plenty of big acquisitions in 2011, they have more cap space than any other team.

The teams with the least cap space are the 49ers with $880,000 and the Texans with $882,000. (The Texans could have had $1 million more, but they inexplicably opted not to carry over their excess space from 2011.)

So how much does your favorite team have, if your favorite team isn’t the Eagles, 49ers, and Texans? The full list is right here.
