Overtime in the Metrodome

With 14 seconds on the clock and the ball on their own 31, the Vikings had to get inside the Jacksonville 40 for a chance to force overtime.

They did. And they did.

Two plays, two complete passes, and the Vikings had the ball at the Jaguars’ 37.

Enter rookie kicker Blair Walsh, who nailed a 55-yard field goal to force overtime.

And so it’s the first overtime with the new regular-season overtime rules. If the Vikings (who won the toss), score a field goal on the first drive, the Jaguars will get a chance to match or beat. If they match, the rules revert to sudden death.
