In a development that immediately conjured images of Jack Youngblood, who once played a postseason game with a broken leg, Redskins long snapper Nick Sundberg remained in Sunday’s win over the Saints with a broken arm.
The injury happened during a blocked punt in the first half. Sundberg finished the game, despite the injury.
It’s unclear whether Sundberg will be placed on injured reserve. The team could choose to use the “designated for return” status, but with long snappers available anywhere and everywhere, it may not make sense to use the ability to bring an injured player back to the roster later in the year on Sundberg.
The only good news for Sundberg is that long snappers typically are mentioned when they screw up. Sundberg is getting his name in circulation for something positive.
