RG3 starts six for six

Robert Griffin III AP

After holding the Saints to a three-and-out on their first drive of the season, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III made his NFL debut, leading the team to a field goal.

Griffin, the first quarterback born in the 1990s to start an NFL game, completed six of six passes while running an offense that looked a lot like the offense he ran at Baylor last year.

The 12-play drive consumed 7:29, keeping Drew Brees and company off the field for almost half of a quarter.

Griffin also ran 12 yards on a read-option play, smartly sliding after gaining 12 yards, instead of trying to gain more and risking contact, and thus injury.
