The Jets defense will be down a starter on Sunday while the Bills offense will have their top receiver in the lineup.
Wide receiver Stevie Johnson will start against the Jets in Week One after being listed as questionable during the week because of a groin injury. Johnson had surgery on his groin during the offseason and said during the summer that he didn’t feel like he’s quite 100 percent even before this week’s flare up. Johnson has had some success against Darrelle Revis in the past, which is something the Bills offense would love to see happen again.
Nose tackle Sione Pouha isn’t going to be starting or playing for the Jets. Pouha is inactive with a back injury that’s been bothering him for weeks. He wasn’t expected to play and Kenrick Ellis will take his place in the starting lineup.
How much the Jets will use Ellis will likely depend on what kind of offensive sets the Bills feature. Assuming they spread their formations out as much as they have in the past, the Jets will probably not go with a traditional nose all that often. Without Pouha in the middle, though, the Bills could try something a little different to exploit his absence.
