Denver had itself a pretty good Sunday night and the good news just keeps on coming.

Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post reports that Broncos coach John Fox announced that quarterback Caleb Hanie is returning to the Broncos.

Okay, we might have oversold it a bit. It qualifies as news, though, and it’s not bad news for anyone except the guy who will have to be cut in order to get Hanie back on the roster two days after he was released. Defensive tackle Sealver Siliga was promoted from the practice squad when Hanie was cut loose on Saturday, but the news that Ty Warren tore his triceps again could mean that someone else gets the short straw.

The reason why Hanie was dropped and then re-signed has nothing to do with the quarterback spot. There wasn’t much about Sunday night that would have made the Broncos feeling the need to add a quarterback. The Broncos had to guarantee him his full salary and they don’t have to do it by signing him on Monday, making Hanie what Fox called a “procedural cut.”

Hanie started four games for the Bears last season when Jay Cutler was injured and before he lost the job. The Broncos will be quite happy not to see history repeat itself.
