Richie Incognito: “I will never apologize for the way I play football”

Richie Incognito AP

Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito is not offended if someone calls him dirty. He might even take it as a compliment.

As we noted this morning, Texans defensive lineman Antonio Smith ripped Incognito as a dirty player, claiming that Incognito “was hitting people after the play, sliding down on your leg grabbing your ankle and trying to twist to break your ankle.”

After reading our post on Smith’s comments, Incognito responded on Twitter that he isn’t too worried about being called dirty:

Incognito also wrote on Twitter that he believes he plays football the right way:

But Incognito denied Smith’s claim that he was attempting to twist or break his ankle, saying he respects his opponents and doesn’t try to knock them out of games:

Incognito has been accused so many times of playing dirty that it’s hard to believe there isn’t at least some truth to what opposing players say about him. But it’s clear that Incognito has no intentions of changing his ways.

“Get with it or get run over by it”

Uhhhh…..I think you were the getting run over on Sunday vs the Texans.

  2. chc4 says: Sep 10, 2012 7:02 PM

So is the NFLPA concerned about the alleged behavior of one if its’ members versus other members? Somehow I think not.

  3. chesslungo says: Sep 10, 2012 7:02 PM

Hate Fins and Bills always liked this guy. Gets too many penalties to be a Pat though

  4. blacknole08 says: Sep 10, 2012 7:03 PM

He may be a dirty player but he’s never played on a winning team. Karma gets people like him in the long run.

  5. stubbyjones says: Sep 10, 2012 7:03 PM

This guys a freakin wingnut. Ask Kawika Mitchell…both he and Incognito were on the Bills and they hated each other. Of course Richie will say it wasn’t him and play the ole I’m innocent card…seriously he has a screw loose AND one of the top dirty players in the league…..he dont need no bounty money to cart people off, he does it all for free.

  6. tdubdizzle says: Sep 10, 2012 7:04 PM

I wish he was on my team.

  9. nflfollower says: Sep 10, 2012 7:09 PM

When you play for the franchises this guy has, what else can you look forward to on a Sunday afternoon?

  10. sterilizecromartie says: Sep 10, 2012 7:13 PM

Of course he won’t. He’s a tough guy. You got a problem with that? If so your face may have an unfortunate encounter with Incognito’s fist!

  11. jonevans83 says: Sep 10, 2012 7:13 PM

He hasn’t done anything bad with the Fins. Also, how come no one else noticed any of this nonsense with all the refs, fans, coaches, etc at the game + billions of hd tv’s around the country? Sounds like they’re whining about him laying out Cushing.

  12. jsho55 says: Sep 10, 2012 7:15 PM

    Whomever chose that picture….10/10.

Almost thought it was Tommy Boy for a second.

  13. texanspat says: Sep 10, 2012 7:18 PM

They gave this idiot #68 so he could wear his IQ on his jersey. Good job “dominating” the Texans while scoring 3 offensive points you moron. Use your game check for some more cool tribal tatts while you win 2 games this season.

  14. thelastpieceofcheese says: Sep 10, 2012 7:19 PM

That’s the way to tell them, Richie!

  15. stevemo says: Sep 10, 2012 7:20 PM

Guys that block like they mean it from snap to whistle aren’t allowed in the NFL today. He’s a few decades too late.

  16. mojosmagic says: Sep 10, 2012 7:20 PM

Next time one guy stands him up while another guy cuts him at the knees ending his dirty, nothing little career. And nobody will care.

  17. texanspat says: Sep 10, 2012 7:23 PM

By the way Dolphins fans, he didnt “lay out” Cushing, he caught him in the air. I’m sure Cush would have no problem whatsoever taking this guy head on in anything. No one in Houston is whining about anything. This’ll probably be the hi-lite of your season so enjoy it.

  18. lonespeed says: Sep 10, 2012 7:27 PM

Last time I checked, Richie Incognito played for the Rams, Bills and Dolphins, three stellar organizations with fantastic records in the past half-dozen or so years Incognito has played.

Why are we talking about Incognito again?

  19. romeisburningtfb says: Sep 10, 2012 7:32 PM

You could see it on hard knocks. Hazing rookies acting like a hardass when he just looks like a middle school bully.

Dude thinks he is gods gift and he isn’t even good. Never played for a winner and never will. Grade A dirtbag.

  20. sfm073 says: Sep 10, 2012 7:33 PM

I was happy the rams drafted him and even happier when they released him.

  21. raiderapologist says: Sep 10, 2012 7:33 PM

They’re all dirty. He’s just a little more so.

  22. joebuckiscreepy says: Sep 10, 2012 7:35 PM

He isn’t a real man if he does everything that he does Incognito…

  23. cornersss says: Sep 10, 2012 7:38 PM

““Get with it or get run over by it”

Uhhhh…..I think you were the getting run over on Sunday vs the Texans.”

Guess you missed that int cushing got and was promptly crushed by incognito

  24. cornersss says: Sep 10, 2012 7:41 PM

“I’m sure Cush would have no problem whatsoever taking this guy head on in anything. ”

Oh yeah. He was so pumped he went and sat on the bench and had a dude rub his back.Real tough.

Cushing can dish it, he didn’t like taking it.

  25. billsin20xx says: Sep 10, 2012 7:42 PM

Is he as dirty as the jets landry who managed to mangle Nelson’s and jacksons knees yesterday?

  26. cornersss says: Sep 10, 2012 7:42 PM

“I was happy the rams drafted him and even happier when they released him.”

Who isnt happy when the rams release them?

  27. texanspat says: Sep 10, 2012 7:44 PM

Guess you also missed the final score

  28. texanspat says: Sep 10, 2012 7:54 PM

And yet, he didnt miss a play and the Dolphins lost 30-10, scoring 3 offensive points. So your point is what again?

  29. sabatimus says: Sep 10, 2012 7:56 PM

So in addition to being dirty he’s also a liar.

  30. phinfan says: Sep 10, 2012 8:03 PM

Did Houston mention taking out 2 of our starting QBs with season ending injuries with houstons defensive dirty hits?

  31. jaykubs says: Sep 10, 2012 8:07 PM

Incognito is a tough dude. If the rest of the team joins him, then they’ll be better off.

  32. beergeekjoey says: Sep 10, 2012 8:10 PM

good for him. don’t apologize for consistently getting penalties to hurt his team, don’t apologize for getting the opposition riled in situations where it is to their benefit. perfect Phin. Ireland strikes again.

  33. noahbird says: Sep 10, 2012 8:24 PM

Incognito is cooler than most of you.

  34. lostsok says: Sep 10, 2012 8:28 PM

Cushing would probably say some bad things, but he’s still too busy counting the little birdies flying around his head.

  35. denverscott says: Sep 10, 2012 8:35 PM

Looks like he’s making a power dump in the picture. Maybe hard gas?

  36. abninf says: Sep 10, 2012 9:00 PM

He didn’t get the memo that tribal tattoos were played out many years ago.

  37. backindasaddle says: Sep 10, 2012 9:34 PM

Incognito plays the game with extreme nastiness. I would love to see him and Logan Mankins in a cage match.

  38. matthewcarlson1 says: Sep 10, 2012 9:45 PM

I dont get why the players don’t fight back against that kind of thing. Ankle twisters should get punished by their peers. Thats the lowest thing i can think of.

  39. nflofficeadmin says: Sep 10, 2012 9:55 PM

How many pro bowls has Richie been to…

You do realize that your boy CUSH, since you guys are so tight that your on a nickname basis, isn’t on the ROIDS anymore,so keep whining, you guys will get your annual injuries and be sitting home with the Dolphins come playoff time!!

  41. gsb333 says: Sep 10, 2012 9:58 PM

Antonio Smith… stop being a b*tch. If it was that big of an issue you would have done something about it. Good job Incognito… play hard, do what you can do.

  42. crashdog says: Sep 10, 2012 10:08 PM

Texans are just whining because Incognito bruised Cushing’s roidribs

  43. wthigooh says: Sep 10, 2012 10:14 PM

He may have been called worse but he’s never been called better.

  44. mrlaloosh says: Sep 10, 2012 10:14 PM

Watch Antonio Smith, he’s always pushing the envelope. Hello kettle, I’m mr pot. Smith and most of the Texans are cheap shot artist. FACT!

  45. antneejay2 says: Sep 10, 2012 10:15 PM

I don’t see anything wrong with the way he plays. That’s because I’m a talentless pig, too. If we played by the rules we’d lose our jobs.

  46. rockybev35 says: Sep 10, 2012 10:38 PM

Great comments regarding him tackling Cush in mid air and throwing him down on his already bruised ribs. Better point Fin fans, that INT led to a TD. Cush was back in on the next series and it led to the string of turnovers that, in essence, was the game! Texans played a poor game and won handedly. I was somewhat impressed with the line play of the Fins on both sides. That said, silly talk about Cushing. Dude plays hurt and is always effective- check his stats. Incognito is prolly cut from the same mold of Cushing, just not half the player.

    Go Texans!!

  47. finbukake says: Sep 10, 2012 10:55 PM

    He crushed Cushing. Lovin it.

  48. mrcogburn says: Sep 10, 2012 10:59 PM

Even the Texan fans were cheering when Incognito pancaked Cushing. Priceless, classic old school football!

  49. Little Earthquake says: Sep 10, 2012 11:04 PM

“Incognito has been accused so many times of playing dirty that it’s hard to believe there isn’t at least some truth to what opposing players say about him.”

Is this how journalism works now? Just making sure in case two or more people accuse me of anything.

  50. drgreenstreak says: Sep 10, 2012 11:06 PM

He’s actually a Mow-Ron attending games incognito to spy on the socialists. Karl Rove sent him.
He without a brain can really feel no pain…

  51. 23tarheel23 says: Sep 10, 2012 11:12 PM

Hey isn’t this Smith character the same guy that was giving Cam Newton “remember me” shots during the pro bowl?

  52. jagwar73 says: Sep 10, 2012 11:15 PM

    Texan players are just SOFT!

  53. texanspat says: Sep 11, 2012 2:25 AM

When was the last time the Dolphins were good, ’85? Or was it 92? I’m confused. Top story for the Dolphins in ’12-a no name guard gets called dirty in week 1. Enjoy your worthless season.

  54. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: Sep 11, 2012 1:36 PM

The name “Incognito” takes away some credability sounding like he is disgusing himself. Anyway, the whole Dolphins team should apologize for the way they play this year.

  55. fishyinalittledishy says: Sep 11, 2012 1:56 PM

I like Ingognito, seems like a funny man loved his little bits on hard knocks i bet he can really wind the opposition up. I would love to hear him miked up. Think the dolphins can surprise a few teams this year next couple of games could really make or break the season.

  56. branjohb says: Sep 12, 2012 4:24 PM

Incognito was the same way at Nebraska before they kicked him off of the team for various team infractions. I remember one Big 12 game where the opposing players were pushing and yelling at him for his dirty play. The guy is a professional mental case.

  57. rudeboy2k says: Sep 12, 2012 4:44 PM

    Watch the play for yourself.

It is fairly clear what is going on.

  58. skleech22 says: Jan 18, 2013 1:28 PM

Just read an old post, and talk about a CHOKE season! That playoff game was embarrassing bro! Say what you want about my Dolphins not being good but talk to me when the TEXANS are anywhere remotely close to the tradition of the DOLPHINS! We actually have won Super Bowls and playoff games!!
