@benny the going rate for an elite QB is somewhere around $20 mill/yr on average. This deal is a pretty good amount less than that. While I wouldn’t say the Texans got a bargain, they didn’t make out too bad.

Okay maybe he is more than a game manager, but the amount of money in that deal implies that he is an elite quarterback…and there are a lot of better qbs who make less. That is not his fault at all…

I think any player with brains or a good accountant should be trying to lock in a new deal ASAP, given the 50/50 odds there’ll be a massive tax increase in the near future.

I only wish this dooms this franchise with the salary cap and so forth, just like what Jags went through in 1999. Schaub not able to perform to the contract and Texans could not sign Freeagents and so on.

Then again the Andrew Luck era will begin to dominate the AFC south.

Texans are a good (borderline great) team if it were not for un-timely injuries.

Schaub, AJ, and Super Mario a few years back if what has kept them from taking the step to elite.

The defense is legit and the offense is potent.

If they can avoid the injury bug to key positions they’ll win their division.

Schaub is more than a game manager. He’s not elite but he can put up big numbers when necessary.

I’d say that’s right these days for a starting qb. He is more than a game manager, he is a very good qb. His biggest problem has been injuries (to himself and his o-line)

Good deal for the team. In a few months he will be QB with a Super Bowl championship on his resume. His value will rise considerably, but the team locked him up early at a discount.

I guess the good thing for the Texans is that they didnt give him a 5-6 year deal.

But…given the way QB salaries have gone, they may as well have given him a Vick-type deal, where he can be cut after 2 years with minimal cap hit.

In the last couple of seasons, QB salaries have skyrocketed. No way half the guys at QB should be making what they are.
