posting after the fact, but to I personally think it’s great that Moss is getting “props” for moving he chains. Moss learned to work the sideline from the great Chris Carter; reads coverages as well as all the great ones, and still threatens the safety coverage with such devastating intention that he really does change every play he’s on the field for, passing and running.
the one thing I’d like to see Harbaugh pull out of his sleeve this year is to play Moss at a single high safety on third or fourth and long when he can play centerfield and have the time to read the play and take it away. If Brady sees Moss back there on a critical fourth and long, he will be shaking in his boots. Moss sees the field like no one else and with the running start at the deep high safety, anything past thirty is his,…
come’on Harbaugh, this makes sense.
also, let Moss return a punt or two just to freak out the opposition. and first and foremost, start making a habit of just one deep ball a game, preferably off playaction and ideally early so the D will have to sweat it out the rest of the game.
Harbaugh has as many chess pieces as some of the great ones: Jimmy Johnson’s SB champs and Bill Walsh’s dynasty. they had Deion, but Harbaugh has Moss. just ask Deion what he thinks Moss is still capable of.

Just looking at NFL.com, the stats seem to say the Lions have a strong O and a stronger D. Niners have stronger running, Lions have stronger passing. But stats don’t win games.

I think it will be a fun game, and I’ve got no idea why the Niners fans are so insecure that they need to talk so much trash.

I’m looking forward to all the talk the week prior to the Nov 19 matchup between the Niners and Bears — the two most whiny fan bases in the NFL — will get together and talk each other to death.

I live in NJ and all I have to say to everyone that isn’t from NY or NJ, be thankful you don’t have this type of media. You talk about if the team plays up to their ability they can compete and the ability to even beat the best teams, and then they will say that you said your team will beat the best teams.

Glad to see/hear this was straightened out because Houston didn’t diss Moss one bit.

Last years starting d line for the leos sucked against the run so far they look good. Stafford threw those 3 picks in the first half two in the first quarter hardly at the worst time. That rams team is a text book example of being “coached up” jeff fisher is like hannibal smith from the. A- team you give him a week he is good you give him a whole offseason to work out his strategy he is really really good. Staffird went 80 yards in 1:38 to throw the game winning td. Aex smith would have been benched after throwing 3 picks cuz he would be crying into gatorade towel and his coach has no confidence in him and you would see kapernick in there . Gonna be another great game

Randy Moss was open a BUNCH of times on Sunday when Smith didn’t have time to get the ball to him.

And he was NOT open when Smith went to him at the 10 yard line, but Crabtree was WIDE OPEN in the endzone PURELY because Moss had been double-teamed.

Smith needs to capitalize on those opportunities.

They brought in Moss to break up constant double coverage on Davis and Crabtree while also opening up the box. Anyone who thinks they were hoping to get 2007 Moss is a fool. He was intended to be a decoy regardless of the QB all along and obviously it is working so far because its all people talk about.

Of course I’d take a decoy who’ll score TDs. Now, if you say that Moss won’t score another one (or few) you’re just trash talking.

All you need to do is see what the niners did to a one dimensional team like the packers. Why would lions fare any better? They too don’t have a running game.

Lots of stupidity be here on this thread. It’s clear that Houston was not dissing Moss and that he was misquoted.
That said, you delusional Leo fans really have no ability to be objective. This may or may not be a game. You can continue to cry fowl over some 5 yd spot last year on your home turf as though that really definitively made the difference. There were some pretty screwy calls on both sides of the ball last year. Plus it was in your house “the loudest stadium in the NFL”. Why after that game, was DET a .500 team? Because Harbaugh showed the rest of the leage how to beat Detroit. Chances are good that he’ll do it again. Last year it was considered an upset that the 9ers walked into your house beat DET and made both Suh and Mongotron look ordinary. This year it will simply be the natural order of things when SF does it again.

Guess you didn’t watch on sunday. Crabtree was the guy open when Smith was throwing to his first read Moss, not the other way around. And when you take a three step drop back, you throw to your first read when he’s open, the routes don’t give you enough time to scan for the third or fourth receiver.
As for everyone talking trash on Houston, please read the article. I’m a 9ers fan and it is right there in the article. Houston never talked trash, the reporter “misunderstood” him (ie changed the quote to make the article more interesting). This should be a great game but Detroit can’t play like they did on Sunday or this will look more like last night’s Ravens vs Bengals than a repeat of last year’s epic game.

I hope that reporter called Houston and personally apologized. I found it lame and defensive that he commented that he “didn’t realize it would be a national story”. He is a reporter, reporting it in his story in the paper, not making some comment to his buddies. Real journalists should realize anything they write can and will be passed along as “the truth”, and very rapidly these days.

The reporter misquoted Houston and also took statements out of context – deliberately created a controversy where there wasn’t one.

How could that happen? (here’s my old Detroit bias) … It was an article in the Detroit News! Of course it’s inaccurate! That’s why people read the Free Press and the Ann Arbor News (now MLIVE).

Glad to know Houston wasn’t as stupid as he was portrayed by the newspaper.

I still think the game will be a shootout. Wouldn’t surprise me if Goodell shows up to make sure everyone is on their best behavior – no f-bombs during the post-game handshake.

Chris Houston wasn’t talking trash. This is clearly instigated. It’s not like he said Moss was trash, all he said was he is a possession receiver.

1.) Moss is 35 going on 36. Yeah, he’s still fast, I’ll give him that much. But guess what, father time catches every one.

2.) For you 49ers fans on this topic, I’m assuming you watched the game, did you not see the 49ers limiting Moss’s playing time?

Do you know what we call that? A possession receiver. The big play receiver of the team is ALWAYS on the field. Michael Crabtree just had his first full off-season, a great preseason, and actually looks healthy. Him and Vernon Davis are their big threats in the air.

Am I saying Michael Crabtree is better than Randy Moss? No. That would just be stupid. But with Randy Moss at 35, and missed a year of football. He’s not their #1 receiver or big play receiver. He’s a major contributor and a possession receiver, where he fits well as you saw seeing that he got a touchdown and a good amount of yards.

They aren’t going to be sending him on a go-route every single play like teams used to be able to do, he’s going to be running real routes. Hitch, curls, slants. POSSESSION receiver routes.
