Yes. But unlike his D-line draft choices Mayhew’s back-seven selections have all been from later rounds (OL and WR in rounds 1 & 2 this year…really?). Until any of the LB’s or DB’s become difference makers (which they haven’t) I’ll stick by my comment. The Lions still need help back there.

Nevertheless I’ll be rooting for them to pull out another miracle, mainly because the 49er fans and coach are generally so, you know, humble and courteous.

Really? Is that really all the Lions have to worry about? How about scoring some points? The Niners defense held the Packers to 15 points in their own yard last week. Is the Lions offense better than the Packers? Is Stafford better than Rodgers?

Alex Smith currently has the longest streak of throwing without interceptions in the NFL. I think he’s up to 185 completions without an interception. If I were a Lions fan, I’d be worried about the fact that your team barely got by the worst team in the NFC West last week and you were playing at home.

The Lions need to keep the 49ers from rolling up another 200+ yards rushing like last year in Detroit, otherwise they’re toast . . . . actually they’re toast anyway.

No. Wending and Coleman are not good at all. And all he’s done is use late round picks on DB’s. the secondary is still the biggest weakness on this team. Just like last year. Can’t fix it all in one year but let’s not kid ourselves here and think he’s upgraded the position. He’s consistently moving laterally hoping to find anything. Still waiting.

The Delmas injury is no biggy. Wendling is a beast!! With Houston back they will be fine.

Delmas is the only DB on that team worth an NFL contract.

I like the “intestinal fortitude” to say we are going to score 50 every game so secondary isn’t an issue.

It’s just not realistic.

A secondary of cast offs and eh-so-so isn’t going to get you into the wild-card spot.

The Lions are going to live and die by the pressure that defensive line can create. Fortunately for them, they were able to get by the Rams in week 1 by sleepwalking through most of the game.

The 49ers will be a much greater challenge.

Lions are trying out a bunch of veteran defensive backs. None are practice squad eligible.
