Unless you missed it, Mayhew has brought in two new starters in Justan Durant (12 tackles week one) and Stephen Tulloch at LB, and this year drafted Tahir Whitehead and Travis Lewis.

At DB, he brought in Houston, Wendling, and Coleman who are all starting, and drafted 3 DBs this year in Bentley, Green and Greenwood.
Mayhew has done plenty with the back 7.

Yes. But unlike his D-line draft choices Mayhew's back-seven selections have all been from later rounds (OL and WR in rounds 1 & 2 this year...really?). Until any of the LB's or DB's become difference makers (which they haven't) I'll stick by my comment. The Lions still need help back there.

Nevertheless I'll be rooting for them to pull out another miracle, mainly because the 49er fans and coach are generally so, you know, humble and courteous.

watchthis: "All the Lions have to worry about is whether or not Stafford will throw enough picks to keep the 49ers in the game."

Really? Is that really all the Lions have to worry about? How about scoring some points? The Niners defense held the Packers to 15 points in their own yard last week. Is the Lions offense better than the Packers? Is Stafford better than Rodgers?

hyzers: "I wonder if Alex Smith is going to surpass his 125 yard, 2 INT game he had last year."

Alex Smith currently has the longest streak of throwing without interceptions in the NFL. I think he's up to 185 completions without an interception. If I were a Lions fan, I'd be worried about the fact that your team barely got by the worst team in the NFC West last week and you were playing at home.

No. Wending and Coleman are not good at all. And all he's done is use late round picks on DB's. the secondary is still the biggest weakness on this team. Just like last year. Can't fix it all in one year but let's not kid ourselves here and think he's upgraded the position. He's consistently moving laterally hoping to find anything. Still waiting.

Delmas is the only DB on that team worth an NFL contract.

I like the "intestinal fortitude" to say we are going to score 50 every game so secondary isn't an issue.

It's just not realistic.

A secondary of cast offs and eh-so-so isn't going to get you into the wild-card spot.

One of the few mistakes Mayhew has made in rebuilding the Lions is putting most of his defensive chips on D-linemen. The 49ers invested wisely in linebackers and D-backs, and that will probably be the difference in this game.

Unless you missed it, Mayhew has brought in two new starters in Justan Durant (12 tackles week one) and Stephen Tulloch at LB, and this year drafted Tahir Whitehead and Travis Lewis.
