DeSean Jackson joins Jeremy Maclin on sideline at Eagles practice

Philadelphia Eagles' DeSean Jackson makes a catch in front of Cleveland Browns defender Joe Hayden during the first quarter of their NFL game in Cleveland Reuters

Michael Vick’s chances of bouncing back from a disappointing opener are looking a little bleaker at this hour.

There aren’t many healthy wide receivers in Philadelphia right now. Jeremy Maclin missed his second straight day of practice on Thursday because of a hip pointer and he had some company this time. DeSean Jackson was also held out of practice with an injured hamstring. It’s a new development as there hasn’t been any word about a Jackson injury prior to Thursday. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Jackson was seen with a large wrap of ice on his left leg after practice, which suggests Jackson got hurt during that session.

It is hard to like the Eagles’ chances against the Ravens this weekend all that much if they don’t have either of their starting wide receivers in the lineup. There are only three other healthy receivers on the active roster — Jason Avant, undrafted rookie Damaris Johnson and the recently signed Mardy Gilyard — and none of them offer anything close to what the Eagles get from Jackson and Maclin.

We’ll find out more about the status of each player on Friday, but it is looking like a game time decision for Maclin after not practicing on either Wednesday or Thursday.

GREAT news for all my people from B-More!!!

As a Ravens fan I actually want DeSean to play. He would have helped our defense with clownish plays, fumbles, etc…

Now, they may replace him with a serious receiver.

Djax injured, Avant injured, Maclin injured, Cooper injured, & Eagles have 2 rookies on the roster to fill these voids? Ok Eagles organization, suck up your provide and it’s time to hire some mercenaries, I’d be calling TO, Plax, and/or dare I say, Mr. Chad Johnson.

  5. shamburg says: Sep 13, 2012 2:57 PM

Do some fact checking Josh. Riley Cooper is also on the active roster. He’s still limited though with his own injury.

  6. eagleswin says: Sep 13, 2012 2:59 PM

I think it was a blowout against Baltimore that signalled the end for McNabb. The Eagles stupidly gave McNabb a “financial apology” after that.

What do you give the $100 mill qb who has everything except a brain?

I’d take the under on the over/under on Vick finishing this game.

  7. Josh Alper says: Sep 13, 2012 3:00 PM

The fact that Andy Reid already ruled Cooper out did make me overlook him, but you are correct.

  8. randallflagg52 says: Sep 13, 2012 3:05 PM

Eagles squeaked by against the worst team in football. They won’t be so lucky against what is possibly the best team in football.

Hope Jackson plays though. It gives Reed the chance to get some INTs since he only runs go routes and Vick can’t hit a barn.

  9. jagsfan1 says: Sep 13, 2012 3:07 PM

Good thing I am deep at WR on fantasy team. I was gonna sit Jackson anyway. I will be starting Jordy Nelson and Miles Austin along with running backs Adrian Peterson, LeSean McCoy and Alfed Morris (who I drafted because I am a great evaluator of talent).

What a classy statement. It would seem you would want to beat a team at its best but judging by your comment class is something you lack.

I’m an Eagles fan, but also an objective football observer. The Eagles could start Michael Irvin, Jerry Rice and Lynn Swann — when they were in their prime! — and they would still lose this game by at least 10 points. These two teams are just not in the same league.

  13. threedeep1998 says: Sep 13, 2012 3:19 PM

Yeah, I’m sure they’ll be the first in line to call T.O.

What exactly am I missing here in this matchup? The Ravens may have the edge at QB, but what else? If Maclin and Jackson play, edge Philly at WR. McCoy and Rice are a wash, TE is even, O line, maybe an edge to Baltimore. D line, edge Philly, DB’s edge Philly.

Yeah they barely beat the Browns, but they overcame 5 Turnovers. Maybe these Eagles will surprise you.

  17. mikea311 says: Sep 13, 2012 3:34 PM

Maclin and Jackson both hurt are the best possible thing to happen to the eagles. This is terrible news for fans of the NFC east.

The one thing we dont want the Eagles to realize is that the are a much better team when the hand McCoy the ball often.

It sucks if Andy were to actually figure this out.

Seriously D line and DB’s to Philly? Your DL can’t stop the run, and your safeties are a joke. Webb, Williams and Smith are just as good or better than your corners, especially since you have an O line coach coordinating your defense.

I love how people draw a season long conclusion from the week one results. I’m pretty sure the last three teams to win the super bowl , did so via a wild card record that was barely 500. no I am not saying we are going to win the super bowl. I leave that to the experts who by the way have about a 97 percent chance of being correct when predicting any team will not win the super bowl. Let’s hope our D line /Ryans is as strong as it/he appears. Go Eagles.

  22. acdc363 says: Sep 13, 2012 4:11 PM

Alright so do I just go ahead and replace Maclin with James Jones tonight (hoping of course that G. Jennings sits)? Or do I wait it out till Sunday and if he’s still not healthy I have in Stevie Johnson as a potential sub (Andre Johnson is my other WR).

Even 100% healthy, the Eagles would get mashed by the Ravens, which is what’s going to happen on Sunday.

Eagles have talent, but nothing separates them from the rest of their division. It’s going to be a season-long slog, and so far they don’t look good for weathering it – especially now that Washington looks to make it a four-team race.

    C’mon bro…bring facts, not opinion…..
    safeties are a joke – Coleman 2ints (DRC-2picks..also a “DB”)
    DL can’t stop the run – Richardson – 19 for 39
    Yds Allowed -210

Save the “it was the Browns”….it was an NFL team in week 1. Wasn’t the greatest test..but it was a defensive domination.

Wow for those of you who think the Ravens are going to blow out Philly at home, you are just crazy. Check your history as Baltimore doesn’t do to well in Philly. Ravens aren’t the same team on the road. Also Maclin was on the radio and said he expects to play. For those of you who know anything about Maclin, this injury won’t stop him from starting. Also Desean Jackson missing practice doesn’t mean he isn’t playing on Sunday. He always has hamstring inssues. Furthermore Avant, Celek, McCoy, Johnson are all capable of getting the job done. The Eagles are going to shock everyone taking care of business, oh and by the way the Browns were within 3 points of everyone of their divisional games except one last year. So for all the Eagles haters out there, keep hating because the Eagles will be 2-0 after Sunday.

  30. ravenator says: Sep 13, 2012 5:07 PM

I’m sorry but these facts you post are a bit askewed. First off, Weeden is a rookie QB and that was his 1st official NFL start. Richardson is a rookie RB and that was his official start in the NFL.

The only part of the Eagles defense that looked impressive was DRC, Ryans, and Kendricks. Coleman had 2ints, neither of which were because he was playing good coverage, the ball was thrown and completely missed the receiver.

The Browns defense is made up of 3 talented players i.e. Joe Haden, TJ Ward, Sheldon Brown, then a bunch of has beens and nobodies.

Yes it was the Browns who should have been schooled by the Eagles and lost by 1pt.

The Ravens are a much better team than the Eagles all around and this coming from a diehard Eagles fan.

Look at all the eagles haters and ravens fans. I am going to LOVE watching my Eagles beat the Ravens. If you think the Ravens D is better then the Eagles D you need to put the pipe down. If you judge a team after ONE game you obviously are a football noob. Can’t wait to see the Eagles bounce back and put a whooping on that Ravens offense. All these fans saying “our D is going to hurt you!!” oh yeah? My D with more QB hurting monsters are going to drag Flacco down the field by his neck. Can’t wait to see your disappointing scary Defense Ravens fans LOL

Yes we all know Weeden is a rookie, but the Eagles still dominated their offense. The point is that they played the way a top defense should have. You can only come out of that game with a positive for Eagles defense.
“The only part of the Eagles defense that looked impressive was DRC, Ryans, and Kendricks.”
You are wrong. The safeties played a very solid game. Allen was solid the whole way through and Coleman played excellent. Coleman’s interceptions both were because he was in position. Ya one of them was tipped, but he was where he was supposed to be. The second interception was overthrown, but he was where he was supposed to be as a safety, behind the WR. He isn’t a CB, so his coverage won’t be that of DRC that causes him to get interceptions the way DRC did in coverage. Second the defensive line was extremely impressive and how you left that out just shows you really don’t know football. To hold a team to 200 yards of offense is tough to do, even a team that isn’t all that good.
The Browns have a much better defense then what you give them credit for. In a division that has Baltimore and Pits in they play a pretty good game. Go back and look at last year as they faced their divisional opponents very well, 5 of those games where decided by 3 points or less. Also in the NFL there is NO such thing as a easy road game.
The only reason the Ravens may be better than the Eagles is because I think Flacco is a better QB then Vick, but to claim they are WAY better? Seriously? Most experts have Eagles rated in the TOP TEN, so how much better do you think the Ravens are then the Eagles? I do think Baltimore is a better team, but not by much and if Vick was to play like he did in 2010, then I would give the edge to the Eagles.

come on man, take it starter for starter:

You can’t do it by starter when you judge the Eagles DLine. The strength of thier DLine is the depth. The Eagles D led the league is sacks last year and guys like Landri (who is a flat out stud) Cox, Hunt, Curry and more only make it better. Besides Lewis is old and isn’t the same player he was five years ago. Eagles DBs are def better. The Eagles D is young, while the Ravens D is still good but how much will these old guys wear done by the end of the year?
