Getty ImagesPatriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has left today’s game against the Cardinals with an apparent ankle injury.
Hernandez had his ankle rolled up from behind by teammate Julian Edelman. He appeared to be in pain as he went down, then limped off the field and was helped into the locker room, where he is expected to be X-rayed.
There’s been no immediate word on Hernandez’s condition, but it didn’t look good. Hernandez is a very big part of what the Patriots do offensively, and losing him for any amount of time is a significant blow.
It’s been a rough day for the Patriots so far, and they’re trailing 6-3 in the first quarter.

That looked really bad. good awareness by Edelman you jag to fall directly into our best offensive players ankles. 100% broken ankle.. unreal.
It’s a high ankle sprain
Looks like he avoided season ending at least…
I wish Aaron a speedy recovery.
Wes Welker will have to be more involved in this offense during his absence.
And there must be a reason that Belichick wanted extra tight ends, since they run so many multiple TE sets.

Or a sprain.
Goooooooooo Over-ratriots!
Those TEs will wear down. First Gronk and now Hernandez with the ankle sprains.
Hopefully Hernandez is back in a few weeks.
But others are going to have to step up now.
One has to think that the agents for Deion Branch, Jabbar Gaffney and Donte Stallworth are all on the phone with the Patriots as we speak.
we’ll see if its a sprain when hes out 8 weeks
