Panthers have no answer for Saints backfield early

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees warms up before playing the Carolina Panthers during an NFL football game in Charlotte Reuters

When Sean Payton said he thought his team would respond the right way, this was clearly what he meant.

The Saints first drive was as flawless, as they moved easily down the field for a 7-0 lead.

Drew Brees was a perfect 6-of-6 passing for 55 yards, capping it with a strike to Jimmy Graham.

But the running backs did the heavy lifting.

Darren Sproles caught the first five passes, and with a tackle-breaking run by Mark Ingram, the backfield accounted for 79 of the 80 yards.

Sproles is a matchup nightmare for anyone, but the Panthers had no answer on the first drive.
