APCut by the Dolphins after a trade to the Redskins fell through and unwanted by the Redskins once he became available as a free agent, running back Steve Slaton has drawn interest from half of the teams in the NFC North.
A tryout with the Bears didn’t result in a new deal; they re-signed Kahlil Bell instead. This week, Slaton will get a tire-kicking from the Lions, according to CBSSports.com (via NFL.com).
Slaton had a strong rookie season with the Texans in 2008, but fumbles eventually got him benched and the rise of Arian Foster eventually got him dumped. The Dolphins dumped him in the final roster cuts after a swap for receiver Anthony Armstrong on cut day fell through.

In my humble opinion, if Mike Shanahan doesn’t want said player as at least a option at RB, then said player must not be all that good. This is very well a case of scraping the barrel.
Really thought Slaton would be a good NFL running back. Hope he catches on somewhere.
Talk about an emotional roller coaster.
The Lions ought to just release Best. They’re obviously not going to put him on the field this year. I don’t know why they don’t have more faith in Kevin Smith than they do. He’s looking awesome and having been out of football his heart and mind are all in.
The rise of Ben Tate got Slaton dumped.
No, Slaton’s continued ineffective performance got him dumped.
