The O-Line is just as bad at run blocking as they were the last few seasons with LT, and then with Sproles.

The one thing that affords Mathews a chance, is that he's extremely quick, and has some real strength. He can get to the outside, as opposed to the backups, who just get tripped up before they have a chance.

After watching how dangerously good Atlanta looked last night, I don't know what they're going to do to keep Rivers upright. Maybe they will have to risk sacrificing Mathews for the rest of the season. Either that, or just keep trying to pound it with Battle, and hope for the best on the outside with Christie Brinkley.

Brown didn't get less carries because he was ineffective.

Norv decided to split duties to keep both RBs fresher. Brown is the better pass blocker so he got the 3rd down work, and thus Brinkley got more carries.

Regardless, they both were equally ineffective.

I think they would be smart to activate him, but keep him on the bench if they don't find they desperately need him. Give the Jackie Battle experiment some time, and see what happens. With the great way Rivers is playing, and the number of guys catching his passes, just let things keep rolling. The Falcons aren't a top-ranked defense, at least not by a greater margin than the Raiders or Titans.

baily67 says:

anybody can run on the Titans so that’s not much of an improvement!

Except Chris johnson. He probably still wouldn't get more than 20 yards in a game against his own team.

I do like what Battle showed but lets not get carried away. He had fresh legs vs. a worn out Titans defense. I do think they will cut Ronnie Brown and Brinkley & Battle will be the backups but Mathews made the Pro Bowl last year and the he is going to be a huge part of the offense for the remaining 14 games. The balance that he will bring to the offense should keep defenses honest and Meechem should start becoming more of a factor.
