APThe 49ers probably wish they could bubble-wrap Aldon Smith as soon as he leaves the field, and unwrap him the next week in time for games.
The outside linebacker was involved in another unusual and dangerous situation, as he was in a car that ended up on its side in a Friday night wreck.
According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, Smith was a passenger in a car that swerved to avoid a deer, and flipped onto its side on a dirt embankment.
The California Highway Patrol said alcohol wasn’t involved in the wreck, but the unidentified driver was taken to a hospital with a “broken back,” and Smith had a cut over his eye that required stitches.
It didn’t hurt him on the field, as he played every defensive snap of Sunday’s win over the Loins, and had seven tackles and a sack.
But it’s just the latest chapter in what’s been a wild ride for Smith this year.
In June, Smith suffered minor stab wounds (and two people were shot) at a party at his home. There was also a DUI arrest in Miami Beach in January, though he qualified for a program to reduce those charges.
He’s an impact player when he’s on the field, but the 49ers have to hold their breath every time he walks out the door.

Harbaugh needs to take Smith to the woodshed or maybe rent him a back bedroom during the season so he can keep him out of trouble.
He’s not even that good on the football field. System player.
They’d better get a handle on this guy before it’s too late.
It was an accident and no alcohol. I fail to see how this is a bad decision on his part.
STAY IN YOUR HOUSE! I’m just kidding, but this guys does not have luck on his side.
I’m glad that Aldon is fine and I hope that the driver recovers. This incident doesn’t add to the stuff that happened during the summer, it’s just bad luck.
Aldon has 9 lives!!! Go 9ers!!!!
Wow…. and what’s astonishing about Aldon is that he isn’t a bad guy! He was trying to play peacemaker break up a fight when he got stabbed. And now this?
He might want to rethink about the people he associates himself with though.
Smith is one of those people that just keeps pushing the envelope. One day we will be hearing tragic news about him.
Never swerve! I know it sucks, but apply the brakes and hit the animal..
He’s a good guy and player. Stay home Aldon, you’ll have plenty of time and money after football to lead a crazy life.
I’m pretty sure he wasn’t the only guy in San Francisco on sunday playing with Loins.
If I didn’t have bad luck, I’d have no luck at all. Grab that rabbit’s foot Aldon and hold on.
He might want to rethink about the people he associates himself with though.

Yeah, running with a crowd that accidentally hits deer is a bad sign. I guess 2/3 people in my rural hometown are bad dudes.
I live in MO. Deer happens ppl. Nothing to see here…move along.
Is the deer OK?
Mature quickly! Niners superbowl window is officially open and you are a needed player
Aldon is a beast. By year’s end he’ll be a top 5 NFL linebacker. But based on his poor choices the last 12 months, I wonder if he’ll make it to season’s end.
If I were Jeddi York, I’d be reworking the “language” of his contract based on his erratic behavior.
This guy is about to become Darrell Russell II.
I say just hit the deer. You get in much more injury and trouble trying to swerve. I don’t seek out animals, but if they cross the road in front of me I am not going to drastically swerve and risk killing myself so an animal can live. I will swerve a little, but not a lot.
Yeah, I could use a “win over the Loins” as you put it.
Always hit the deer, never swerve
Maybe the deer hit the car! It happenes!

This guy is a clown! System player? Watch the game bud, I doubt the system makes Aldon as fast as he is. Football must not be your sport.
Was the deer ok?
Wait so because he was a passenger in a car that swerved to avoid a deer he is a problem?
Swerving to avoid deer is no joke. I tried to once and it ended with my car flipped over.
Seems he employed excellent judgement when he chose which seat in the car.
But please go ahead and dwell on the negative.
Oh Aldon
If that cut over his eye hit a little lower then he would of been blind. It is a blessing that he came out the car wreck with only a cut above his eye.
It’s just a matter of time.
The guy’s a train wreck. It’s only a matter of time.
Dudes a baller and a winner and winners do what they want lmao…. Go niners he will be fine
I can see getting on Smith for some of the previous stuff, but for gosh sakes, he was just a passenger in a car this time, not even the driver. This definitely falls under “sh** happens sometimes”.
Now, there is something I want to know. an inordinate number of incidents involving players of various sports seem to happen in Florida’s Dade and Broward counties (Miami/Ft. Lauderdale). Can a team put it in a player’s contract that he’s not allowed to live there? It seems to me that a llot of problems could be avoided that way.
