Chad Johnson tweets that he’s on his way to Philadelphia

Chad Johnson has always had a knack for getting people to pay attention to him and he did it again via Twitter early on Tuesday morning.

It’s not the part about being up too late that’s grabbed eyeballs. It’s the part about the destination.

Tuesday happens to be the day that NFL teams traditionally bring in players for tryouts, which means that Johnson’s tweet caught the eye of some folks at who thought that the trip might have something to do with the Eagles. Jeremy Maclin is still being bothered by a hip injury, DeSean Jackson missed practice last week with a hamstring injury and Riley Cooper has been out with a broken collarbone, which could mean they are in the market for help at receiver and taking a look at Johnson.

It could also mean that Johnson has a hankering to see where Trading Places was set or some other reason for being in Philly, so no one should be jumping to any grand conclusions based off a tweet. A tweet on Monday from Johnson to Skip Bayless of ESPN said that he was taking a year off to “work on me,” which seems like a good idea given the ugly incident with his wife that precipitated his departure from the Dolphins.

We’ll keep you posted should any other information come to light about Johnson’s latest voyage.

    lol, perfect.

It’s a lot easier to “work on me” if you have some money, so 1 or 2 more years of playing would probably be helfpul.

I just hope he can rebuild his rep…everyone makes mistakes and hopefully this changes his life. I wish the guy would have never married that crazy chic but hey cant change the past now. he has accepted his mistake owned up to it and said he has to lay in the bed he made…To me accountability and ownership is the 1st step… Good luck to you bro and think positive….

With 27 million under the cap free, I would sign him.

Just put Riley Cooper on the darn IR. He wasnt that good to begin with. If Chad can come in and catch 3 balls per game for the next 3-4 games, it would do us a world of good with our depleted receiver corps.

For a minimum NFL wage nonguaranteed contract, let’s see if he can still play.

  6. stubbyjones says: Sep 18, 2012 10:06 AM

Nobody should really care…he’s old, can’t run routes, can’t catch and beats the crap out of women (2nd charge).. Time to find a new line of work.. You blew it Chad.

Vick is throwing a fundraiser today at Aloft. He could be going for that.

After losing his center, Ron Mexico was hoping they would bring him protection, not bring in someone who got in trouble for using protection.

  9. drainbameged says: Sep 18, 2012 10:07 AM

Chad couldnt catch a cold Let alone 3 balls a game.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the Eagles. He’s done. If Johnson couldn’t learn the playbook on the Patriots, why in gods name would Philly even consider them? They signed Gilyard back and Cooper will be practicing soon.

Philly is a major city in the US. People fly there.

“If Chad can come in and catch 3 balls per game for the next 3-4 games…”

Wooooah there. That’s like… 12 catches you’re asking for. I think you should set a more attainable goal for this former Pro Bowler.

Well, T.O. looked awful in pre-season, Deion Branch never accomplished anything outside of New England, and Jabar Gaffney is recovering from a leg injury he sustained in the offseason.

Chad Johnson is not a Pro Bowler anymore, but he’s healthy and will work for cheap.

Wear a helmet Philly girls…this man has quite a headbutt!

What a great movie that was!! Eddie Murphy goes from bum to overnight success & Dan Akroyd goes from being on top of the world. To then being a street bum!! And who could forget Akroyd drunk in the Santa Claus suit getting all that food caught in his beard!!! LMAO

If life has taught me anything, it’s to always err on the side of things involving Trading Places.

  16. eddardofthehousestark says: Sep 18, 2012 10:28 AM

Even if they sign him, Philly has a long way to go to be a good team. The refs gave them a win over Baltimore, and they narrowly beat one of the worst teams in the league.

  17. flavordave says: Sep 18, 2012 10:29 AM

Chad has family in Philly. Hes not here for the football.

  18. ampats says: Sep 18, 2012 10:32 AM

The good news is that he doesn’t need a playbook since he doesn’t understand how to run disiplined patterns.

  19. janvanflac says: Sep 18, 2012 10:39 AM

is there a UFL team in Philadelphia?

  20. mymanmccoy says: Sep 18, 2012 10:44 AM

Too stupid to learn plays and philly is definitely NOT a destination city. Yeah, this is perfect!

  21. cardiovascularendurance says: Sep 18, 2012 10:46 AM

Is the Arena League still in operation? Maybe Bon Jovi is bringing him in for a workout with the Soul.

  22. godofwine330 says: Sep 18, 2012 10:53 AM

“Turn those machines back on!!!” I tell you between Trading Places and Seinfeld on this site. My favorite was the one set in Philly.

Though it does not look like Chad will be donning that gold jacket he can still play. He should have waited until he got the job before tweeting thought.

  23. ebr362 says: Sep 18, 2012 10:56 AM

Hey Chad, how about a little more working on you and a little less tweeting to reporters looking for attention……Its clear nothing has changed.

  24. ppc50 says: Sep 18, 2012 11:00 AM

It’s cool that he may make a roster that needs WR help, but I think he is foolish to post it on Twitter. That is one of the reasons he is not on a team already. Even as a Cowboys fan, I sincerely hope he is able to play and play well. I think he was railroaded in the incident with his ex-wife. Even on the trashy show BB wives – she said that he could find other women if A) He wore condoms and B)She would let her know. They had women already in their relationship. She is a nut, he just tries to hard to be funny. Stick to football Johnson.

  25. tabcdef9 says: Sep 18, 2012 11:16 AM

Part of what’s happened to Chad is the same as happens to other many aging receivers (T.O. etc. ) – they’ve lost their connection to the
ball itself. With that you get drops that wouldn’t have occurred earlier in their careers.

Of course with Johnson poor route running and not learning the playbook compounds any chance with a new team. Did he have that problem at Cincy too, or did he just fall into a system that fit his talent and work habits? Carson Palmer could clear this up.

The man just really wants an authentic cheesesteak at Geno’s and a cold Yungling.
