Finnegan is a football player. Plain and Simple. He's a little guy with a big mouth on the field, but he's also a model citizen off the field, spends time with sick kids, gives money and time to charity..

I don't see 90% of NFL players spending the time he spends in the community every year.

Hate his play, but don't talk smack about the person.

Where is everybody getting this "let the players play" because of "less ticky tack calls are being made" information from? There have been more pass interference calls made through the first 2 weeks of football this season than the last 5 seasons. They are calling MORE penalties.

The real issue isn't the flags thrown. It's the after the whistle stuff. This weekend in all the games I watched I saw:

A player push an opposing coach.
Two different players grab an official.
At least 15 different scrums between entire teams and coaches.
At least 6 after the whistle blatant cheap shots in front of an official that didn't call it.

The last one is what gets me. Missing a holding call or a ticky tack PI call is one thing. But when a player is taking a shot at another player after the whistle and getting away with it... just unsportsmanlike and dirty. I saw this happen multiple times in the 49ers, Eagles, Redskins, Broncos and Giants games. Enough is enough.

All you people who are bashing these replacement refs for missing calls are acting like it doesn't happen on a regular basis with the union refs. The only reason each and every missed call or hesitation on a call is being put under the microscope is because these guys aren't the union. I cant' count the amount of horrible, missed and down right stupid calls I've watched over the past few years, and now all the sudden its threatening the players livelihood? Give me a break.

I thought things were going to be okay after week 1. I thought the replacement refs did a good enough job...other than a couple big gaffes in the SF/GB and SEA/ARI games.

I will say that I like the fact that there are fewer flags for ticky-tack hands fighting or jostling for position down the field when the ball is being thrown to a receiver. Bill Polian is probably having kittens about it, but I like that...let the players play and the plays develop.

That's about as far as I'll go...the games are longer, and the replacement refs are losing control of the games quicker and quicker. How can a ref for six weeks who is a substitute teacher during the week, tell Bill Belichick that he is wrong on something on the field. It's not a good or fair position to be put in.

I blame the owners and the league on this...not as much the inexperienced refs. They're doing their best but are simply over their heads. I'm hoping this gets resolved sooner than later.

The replacement officials have made their fair share of blunders, but that is to be expected from , well, replacement refs.

All in all, I have liked the overall feel of the games. They have allowed a little more contact, but I think the players are also trying to get away with a little more contact as well.

It will work itself out. I think the locked out refs might want to look for a more comfortable chair to watch Sunday football in. They might just need it.

You don’t have to be pro-union to see that these guys suck. This has ZERO to do with unions and EVERYTHING to do with the competence that is borne of experience.

The “real” refs are better because they’ve been doing it for years, as opposed to doing it in high schools and pickup games at the park. That’s a fact, and your particular view on unions can’t change it.

***********************************

I'm sorry...

But as a Dolphins fan, for whom it's only been a year or three - since seeing the regular "good" ref's absolutely outright ASSIGN a win to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and ASSIGN a loss to the Miami Dolphins - that neither team earned...

I think your statement is BS.

With all the (media predetermined narrative of the replacement ref's affecting the game)... I've yet to see anything as egregious and season altering.

My god, I'm so sick of the revisionist history going on with this replacement ref situation. Were the regular refs much better at the administration of the game than the replacements? Absolutely. But to make like the regular refs never made mistakes, bad calls, game etc, is complete bull. I keep hearing this argument, "just wait until the replacements blow a game." Regular refs blow games all the time. How many times has a game been decided on a suspect pass interference call? I remember once, in a game between the Patriots and Steelers in 2005 had a clock error in it that gave the Patriots an extra 52 seconds to drive down the field and win the game. Seriously, google Patriots Steelers Clock Error. One time the refs screwed up a coin flip in a Thanksgiving Day game. Anyone remember the Steelers Seahawks Superbowl? The list goes on and on. Heck, Ed Hocculi has a whole section on his wikipedia page focusing on his game blowing calls. I totally agree with people who want the old refs back because of lack of control or flow of the games. But the bad calls have been no different than the crappy calls the regular refs make.

i understand the love of the oldsk00l style of defense as i grew up watching ronnie lott. and i loved that style of defense .. so i get it. i totally get it.

but nowadays .. with fantasy football being as popular as it is .. and me being a participant in many fantasy football leagues .. i do NOT need oldsk00l defenses knocking my players out for weeks at a time. that will completely screw up my team and my chances of making the playoffs.

i am still upset that dunta robinson knocked my desean jackson out a few weeks .. that severely jeopardized my season!

I think any person who admires Jack Tatum should be ashamed. Here’s a man who paralyzed Daryl Stingley with a cheap hit in the preseason no less and the guy never apologized or showed any remorse for the hit.

Cortland Finnegan has always been a punk and is the biggest goon in the NFL right now.

========================

Tatum is a Hall of Fame player, and a collegiate one at Ohio State as well. One of the greatest players to ever play the game - of course he apologized, nimrod.

Ashamed? Have you seen the blasts Butkus, Deacon Jones, Donnie Shell, and other players made? People always bring that up - those were all throwback players.

You dont know what a goon is - Finnegan is average compared to Night Train Lane , Pat Fischer and some of the other old school players. Mike Curtis...Mean Joe Greene. They(d body slam players throw them out of bounds - they hit and hit hard for less money and definitely with less protection as now.

Pull up your skirt, already.
