Antrel Rolle injures knee in collision with TV camera

Miles Austin, Justin Tryon,Antrel Rolle AP

A boring game at Bank of America got interesting in an unfortunate way, midway through the fourth quarter.

Giants safety Antrel Rolle, running out of the end zone after covering Panthers tight end Greg Olson, jumped over a cameraman.  But Rolle banged his knee on the camera and landed awkwardly.

Olson wiped out another cameraman before Rolle suffered his injury.

It’s a potential dark cloud over a thoroughly dominant 33-7 performance by the Giants, who have made Superman look like Clark Kent with busted glasses and a football full of Kryptonite.

    Is coughlin going to complain after the game about cameramen taking out players knees?

  2. onebucplace says: Sep 20, 2012 11:17 PM

    If the Panthers would have just stopped playing since the game was clearly already over he never would have gotten hurt. People need to know that once the Giants are up in the game it’s over and the other team should quit — see now someone got hurt which spoils what was otherwise a very boring game.

    Most entertaining play all night!God the Panthers are horrible

  4. onebucplace says: Sep 20, 2012 11:22 PM

    Also why were the Panthers trying to block that last FG? The game is over and the Panthers are still trying? Oh no, here comes another week of whining of out of New York.

    Ridiculous. Hopefully, he’s not too hurt.

    Bring in the replacement cameramen

  7. romoscollarbone says: Sep 21, 2012 12:10 AM

    I missed the play, but knee pads prob wouldve helped. however i believe only thigh pads will become mandatory. these guys need to protect their investment of themselves. they work their tails off then expose themselves to injury. also cameramen are close, stuff happens.

    Love all the Giants and Coughlin haters. The dude can coach, get off

  9. granadafan says: Sep 21, 2012 1:42 AM

    Obviously it’s the replacement referees’ fault!

    Cam Newton = Tim Tebow, ya I said it.

  11. bleedgreen11 says: Sep 21, 2012 2:54 AM

    Honestly that sloppy camera man had plenty of time to react. The final shot was not worth the end result. If he would have been a gentleman and moved out the way Antrel Rolle would not be injured right now.

    No one cares if the cameraman is ok. poor bastard.

  13. jimnaizeeum says: Sep 21, 2012 5:06 AM

    Had to be the fault of the replacement refs.
    I think they also may have had something to do with my mailbox getting knocked over.

    It’s a bit annoying when people are paid to cover football for a living, and paid to write in the English language for a living, yet manage to misspell the names of high-profile veteran NFL players. It happens a lot. It’s Greg Olsen, not Greg Olson. You spelled it “Olson” twice in this article. Get hooked on phonics. A sports writer should have better observation skills, a better memory, and better attention to detail.

    Maybe if Rolle had knee pads he would have fared better. Let’s see if the NFLPA chimes in…..

    do cameras really need tk be that close

  17. tatatoothy says: Sep 21, 2012 7:30 AM

    ‘Take a knee’ has been a problem for the Giants this season.

    1st off, I love all the NYG haters. Not only are you good for a laugh, but you provide the team motivation. Plus it validates all the success of the past few years. Now in response to the last play of the game, Coughlin has no choice but to stick up for his players. The Giants could’ve been more prepared for that play, and Schiano should’ve been reminded that he’s coaching professionals.

    That being said, I just hope this awkward play from last night turns out to be harmless for both teams.

    Could not have happened to a nicer guy.

  22. seeptermean says: Sep 21, 2012 8:43 AM

    I feel like this type of thing happens a lot, they should have someone policing these camera guys. The shot isn’t that important that they put themselves in a position to injure themselves or the players. The NFL should fine them, similar to how defensive players are fined for illegal hits.

  23. gochargersgo says: Sep 21, 2012 8:56 AM

    No sympathy. Ran into a cameraman while unneccesarily shoving Olsen way after the ball was out of reach into another member of the camera crew.

  24. randolph32 says: Sep 21, 2012 9:15 AM

    Anyway we can blame the Replacement Refs for this?

  25. rajbais says: Sep 21, 2012 9:40 AM

    Time to bring back Deon Grant???

  26. minnesotablizzard says: Sep 21, 2012 10:17 AM

    The camera men and other random people should not be allowed that close to the side lines. Its a pretty simple fix so something like this doesnt happen again. Put up barriers and have the camera people behind them like in soccer. Then you put Ads all over the barriers. Win-win. No more injuries from sideline scrubs, and more ad space for sponsors. What am I missing here??

  27. salventuri says: Sep 21, 2012 10:37 AM

    Cam Newton is just another Donovan McNabb. And that’s on one of McNabb’s Bad Days! LOL!

    KARMA!!! Rolle banged his knee on the camera and landed awkwardly AFTER unnecessarily pushing Olsen in the back trying to hurt him. The ball was already past him and he was out of bounds. Hopefully the loud-mouthed clown is out for the season. Scum…

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Spoken like a true Eagirls fan… Don’t have anything good to write on your teams pages so you come to the Giants page to talk trash… Talking about Karma, huh? Its going to even funnier watching Vick get carted off the field at some point this season, or see Jackson miss 3 games with a broken toenail….
  31. mtgblue1979 says: Sep 21, 2012 12:36 PM
    Eagles fans have nothing worth talking about because they don’t have a quarter back or legitimate WRs so they get owned before seasons end more often then not. Bucs fans are still crying about the sub par coached team they have and bitter they haven’t been relevant since warren sapp played…..and Carolina fans are bitter because cam newton has been exposed as a horrible quarterback. Phenomenal athlete sure but a terrible quarterback much like Michael Vick.
    And he pushed Olsen to break up the play. No karma involved. You all can bitch about how you play the full 60 minutes and how we cried over one play well crying about that push makes you hypocrites. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to bask in another win and dream about how we are going to rip Vick to shreds yet again….
  32. twaharpies says: Sep 21, 2012 2:20 PM
    I agree, the NFL and the NCAA have to get these cameras and photographers off the sidelines.
    Years ago the down markers were rigid and destroyed more than one promising athlete’s career. So they fixed that by changing the markers, but then allowed nimrods holding 35 pound metal cameras with foot long lenses to posture right next to the playing field.
    I recall Dennis Rodman smashing into one of these camera men sitting right under the basket. Rodman lost his temper and kicked the dope. Then the NBA slapped Rodman with a healthy fine, but did nothing about clearing the junk from the edge of the court.
    Doubtful, but we can guarantee whenever the Giants are the headline, that you haters will beat Giants FANS to this page to make asinine comments each time.
