Cowboys fans probably should bookmark the team’s website

When checking the websites of the various NFL teams, it’s common to type in to the browser the nickname only, without the city/state.  But not every NFL team has purchased the shorthand version of the team’s URL.

The Cowboys haven’t.  In 2007, they tried.  But after they realized that their intended bid of $275 was actually $275,000, they passed.

And so, when periodically typing Cowboys.com over the past few years, I’d end up at a placeholder site that never had been filled.

Until now.

Via Deadspin.com, Cowboys.com is now a website for folks who are looking for a Cowboy.  To love.

Yes, it’s now a dating site, brought to you by someone who was willing to pay an amount that Jerry Jones wasn’t.

You fail to mention that it is a gay dating service website.

I bet the owner came off that $275K price tag when Jones turned it down.

And Troy Aikman is their pitchman, at least that’s what Skip Bayless is saying

Jerry Jones being cheap?! Apparently the apocalypse begins in Dallas. I call shenanigans..someone is clearly impersonating Jerry Jones, and the real Jerry is being held captive at a Super 8 Hotel – just because the location alone is torture to him.

No wonder Jerry is changing the Cowboys Stadium dress code.

Honestly, the cowboys (as a brand) don’t even need a website with all the media attention they get.

What does the sexual orientation of the dating service have to do with it. It is irrelevant, hence it was not mentioned.

actually if you read the article, it sold for 100k more than what Jerrah was gonna pay for it.

Apparently their lawyers suck. What they don’t know is they could probably be awarded that domain given how close to their brand it is.

  18. tannethrill says: Sep 20, 2012 4:33 PM

My guess is it’s run and owned by the person who originally tried to sell the name. This seems like an effort to provoke the Dallas Cowboys to purchase the URL.

  19. motobus says: Sep 20, 2012 5:48 PM

If the cowboys really turned down buying this domain for 275k they will really regret it. I’ve seen worse domains sell for 7-8 figures.

The thing really working against the cowboys is that they have no grounds for legal action to acquire the domain because ‘cowboys’ is a generic word not necessarily associated with their brand. This stops them from claiming cyber-squatting, especially now that the domain actually points to a website.

I take it Florio pointed it out to promote it to all PFT fans. Don’t get so defensive…Give Florio the benefit of the doubt.

I don’t see why it is necessary for Cowboys fans to bookmark the team website. I think most of them would be interested in dating a cowboy.
