I can’t stand the Bucs, but in this case the sniveling NY Giant coach needs to be fined and sent packing – he is a continual whiner of the first order. His team has had preferential scheduling for years – when New Orleans had a home game during the hurricane season, the game was not played at a neutral field – it was shifted to NY. This wasn’t the first time that there has been such a preferential treatment for the NY Giants and Coughlin – that walking corpse is a disgusting man whose teams continue to self-destruct under him. If it weren’t for Eli Mae Manning’s performances in the playoffs, Coughlin would be sitting home on his 70 year old arse yelling at the tv every Sunday.

A coach who instructs his defense to allow an opposing offense to score is a coach with a PLAN, a strategy that might give his own offense the needed time to score a game-winning TD.
Greg Schiano is a good coach. The job he did at Rutgers was nothing short of remarkable. I was actually pulling for him to become Joe Paterno’s successor at Penn State…
The Bucs have found themselves a damn good coach.

whether people think it’s right to do or not, the improbability that it would work combined with the media heat someone takes for trying it and the distraction that it’s caused doesn’t seem to make it worth the risk. There seems to be a media generated nanny state when it comes to playing football where people are consumed by injury risk and fines, bellyaching about it whenever it happens with the sports media, Mike as exhibit A in the media nanny state, leading the charge.

the clock is running, nyg had to snap the ball, quit acting like it’s the pro bowl.

now, 50 years ago some unnamed OL got mad at DT ernie stautner for going all out in the pro bowl. he told them to play hard cause they were still getting paid.

Schiano ran a dirty play because he is a sore loser coach. He never once won a Big East title running his dirty plays. Had the Lions’ Jim Schwartz run that play against the 49ers, Harbaugh would have torn his nuts off. The rest of the league will be waiting for the chance to make Freeman and the Bucs pay for his sore loser dirty tactics.

I’m with Schiano on this, and this is exactly why I’ve never liked “fake spike” plays where the QB acts like he’s going to spike the ball to stop the clock but then tries to throw for a TD instead.

I’ve always hated those plays because I know that if a D ever actually played hard and tried to hit the QB on an actual fake spike they’d be heavily criticized by the opposing team/coaches, just as Coughlin did here.

But IMO you can’t have it both ways … if QBs can fake a spike and try to throw for a TD then defenses should be able to treat spikes as business as usual and try their best to hit the QB as he executes the play.

I understand that it can and has worked but the reason it worked is because at that point it is no longer a legitimately competitive situation, and what you’re doing is taking advantage of an opponent who has let their guard down. If they were ready for it, there’s no way you’re creating a fumble in that situation. If you were able to, you’d be using those “techniques” throughout the course of the game trying to force a fumble. It’s just a cheap tactic used by a team who can’t win for real.

everyone needs to move on.. it was clean. legal. 7pt game with 4-5 big passing plays in the 4th qtr anything could of happened had a fumble occured.

The unwritten rules in the NFL to me is just a lack of passion. That is one thing I do like about college football. This play is not out of the ordinary on Saturday afternoon, but involve money and it’s ok to quit with 2 minutes to go. It was highly unlikely the play would work but I admire the passion to at least try and win instead of rolling over.

Where were Schiano’s “techniques” and “plays” when the Giants were knocking on the goal-line and the Bucs D WANTED them to score.

You go hard when you can actually impact a game, not against the victory formation.

I think the Giants, especially Eli, were giving themselves/himself up on the play and therefore hits delivered would be subject to penalty. That said, the NFL correctly fined the players that retaliated.
