Robert Griffin III complained this week that the Rams took cheap shots at him in their victory over the Redskins. But the league office didn’t see it that way.
Although several Rams defenders did hit Griffin on Sunday, Mike Sando of ESPN points out that not a single one of them was fined. The NFL reviews every single questionable play and fines the cheap shots, which means the NFL didn’t think the shots Griffin took were cheap.
At least seven players on the Rams’ defense -- Jo-Lonn Dunbar, Quintin Mikell, Robert Quinn, William Hayes, Cortland Finnegan, Kendall Langford and Craig Dahl -- had hits on Griffin during Sunday’s game. But as the Rams have been eager to remind Griffin since his public complaint, there’s no rule against hitting a quarterback. And the NFL apparently believes that all the times the Rams hit Griffin were well within the confines of the rules.
Two Rams defenders, Quinn and Janoris Jenkins, were fined for hits during the Redskins game. But neither of those fines were for hits on Griffin. So to the extent that the Redskins have anything to complain about, Griffin probably isn’t the one who should be doing the complaining.
