Barry Church thinks he’s done for the year

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back LeGarrette Blount leaps over Dallas Cowboys safety Barry Church in Arlington, Texas Reuters

The Cowboys are running out of safeties.

After beating the Buccaneers without starter Gerald Sensabaugh (calf strain), they’ve apparently lost Barry Church.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network said Church thinks he’s out for the season with either a fully or partially torn Achilles, calling it “a heart-breaker.”

While Sensabaugh’s injury shouldn’t cost him too much time, they’re going to have to go find some help, after finishing the game with former Buffalo practice squader Mana Silva alongside Danny McCray.

Sounds like good news for the Bears next week.

That would be like saying if bears starting guard got hurt, still a weak point. Cowboys will miss church but will NOW have ratliff and sensabaugh, so they’re actually going to be better next week.

Bad news, he worked himself up the depth chart over the last few seasons, hopefully he makes a full recovery

    Sad news.

Against the Buccaneers the Cowboys lined up CB Carr at safety with Jenkins at corner. Will they keep doing that? Bad news about Church.

How about a shout-out to Tony Romo, who is tied with Roger Staubach for 3rd all-time TD passes for the Cowboys (153). He got there 46 games faster than Staubach did, and with 35 fewer INTs. Barring injury, he’ll pass Aikman’s all-time team-leading 165 TD passes sometime this season in 50-60 fewer games and he will do it with around 50-60 fewer INTs as well. Two more 4th quarter comebacks and he’ll have tied “Captain Comeback”, Roger Staubach.

Great stats! Well, except for the fact that Staubach played in 5 SB’s, and actually won 2 and Aikman played in 3, and won all 3. I mean, Romo is great…statistically, but until he wins a meaningful game (i.e playoff game) and develops true leadership skills, he’s not worthy of being mentioned with these NFL immortals.
