Chris Johnson reaches a season-high 19 yards

Titans running back Chris Johnson is having his best game of the season today against the Lions. Not that that’s saying much.

Late in the first quarter, Johnson has three carries for 19 yards. Which is far better than he did in a full game in Week One (11 carries, four yards) or Week Two (eight carries, 17 yards).

Johnson is showing a little bit more of the speed and explosiveness than he’s shown in the first two weeks of the season. He has also had some good holes to run through, the kinds of holes that the Titans’ offensive line hasn’t been opening much so far this year.

Is Johnson’s fast start today against the Lions a sign of better things to come? After Johnson’s disastrous start to the season, the Titans sure hope so.

After a punt return touchdown on a trick play reminiscent of the “Music City Miracle,” the Titans lead 10-6.

UPDATE 1:54 p.m. ET: On his fourth carry of the game, Johnson was drilled behind the line of scrimmage for a seven-yard loss, bringing him down to 12 yards on four carries on the day.

SECOND UPDATE 2:46 p.m. ET: It took until the third quarter, but Johnson finally broke an 11-yard run, his longest of the season.
