The Jets were excited about getting cornerback Darrelle Revis back after a concussion this week, but they’re now going to have to play without him for a bit in Miami.
Revis went down after planting awkwardly on his left knee while trying to make a tackle on a pass to running back Daniel Thomas. Revis looked to be in severe pain as he hit the turf, ripping his helmet off and slamming the ground with his fist. He was able to walk off with the assistance of the training staff, however, and the Jets will see what might be wrong with their star corner. They’ve already announced he’s done for the day.
Those non-contact injuries never look good and they often wind up not being good for the players who suffer them. The Jets defense needs Revis to operate at its highest level and, given the state of the offense, they can’t win otherwise.
Revis seemed to set the Jets up to take the lead earlier in the third when he forced and recovered a Thomas fumble just after safety LaRon Landry returned an interception 18 yards to tie the score at 10. The Jets came up with two brutal plays in a row from the Dolphins’ 3 -- Tim Tebow got dropped in the backfield on what might have been a passing play and Mark Sanchez got picked after underthrowing Stephen Hill in the end zone -- and couldn’t capitalize on their good fortune.
The Dolphins wouldn’t characterize a Revis injury as good fortune, probably, but they capitalized all the same. It’s 17-10 Dolphins after they drove for a Jorvorski Lane touchdown following Revis’ injury.
