When Falcons running back Michael Turner was arrested last week, the team issued issued a perfunctory statement about it. When Falcons defensive end John Abraham was arrested today, the team recycled its perfunctory statement.
“We are aware of the news regarding John Abraham. We are in the process of gathering more information and we will have no further comment at this time,” the Falcons’ statement, released a few hours after Abraham’s arrest on Monday, said.
That’s not much different than the previous statement that the team released when Turner was arrested for drunk driving: “We are aware of the situation involving Michael and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time.”
So the Falcons changed the names of the players, changed “situation involving” to “news regarding,” and hit the same notes about gathering information and having no further comment.
Abraham was arrested for obstructing police and firefighters who were responding to a call about a woman threatening to jump off a building. Given those odd circumstances, Abraham may have to issue more than a perfunctory statement to explain.
