The NFL officially announced the fines given to Broncos coach John Fox and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio for berating officials during Week Two on Monday afternoon.
There could be more fines coming in the near future. The release about the fines for Fox and Del Rio included a note about the notable run-ins between coaches and officials from this week’s game.
“We are reviewing incidents from yesterday’s games involving the game officials and Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.”
Belichick grabbed an official as the official made his way off the field following the Ravens’ game-winning field goal on Sunday night. Belichick said Monday that he only wanted to speak to the official and that he “in no way tried to abuse or be disrespectful.”
There were plenty of shots of Harbaugh energetically giving his opinion to officials on Sunday night. The most notable instance came in the fourth quarter when Harbaugh came onto the field and appeared to dispute an illegal contact penalty called on cornerback Lardarius Webb. Harbaugh The Ravens bench drew a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct despite protests that he was merely trying to call a timeout.
Shanahan issued an apology for a profane airing of grievances with an official in the wake of Sunday’s loss to the Bengals. It would be surprising if he and the other two coaches don’t hear from the league in light of the penalties handed to the two coaches in Denver.
