You can blame Harbaugh for berating the refs, but not for causing them to give time outs and challenges. That’s just the refs ineptitude. It’s their responsibility to know the rules and grant time outs and challenges, regardless of what any coach or player tells them.

Better yet, fire Roger Goodell.

Bring back the real refs.

The solution is not to just give in to the locked out refs. The owners that Goodell works for didn’t get to where they’re at by giving in every time things got difficult. Since the locked out refs won’t come back for what the owners believe is a fair deal, the owners are doing the best they can with what they have.

Everyone else needs to suck it up and act like the professionals they’re paid to be.

The regular refs would have seen that and awarded the ball to the Niners without any need for TO’s and challenges.

I believe you correct that officials with the least mistakes are the ones selected for the playoffs so that is motivation but it doesn’t detract from my point that there is no punishment during the regular season. They have just enough crews to work the games. There is no spare crew to replace a crew that had a horrible game.

That is 2 things the NFL wants to change. Having the extra crews to use if needed and the ability to actually replace refs that aren’t performing.

Bill Leavy blew several major calls in superbowl XL yet suffered not a single consequence for blowing it on the NFL’s biggest stage. Ed Hochuli has blown games with no consequence.

The biggest issue right now is that the NFLRA is holding the most qualified replacement hostage (the higher level NCAA refs). The real outrage should be that the NFLRA is holding the refs most qualified to replace them hostage.

I completely agree with you but I think the frustration we’re all having is the existing refs are screwing up somewhere between 5-10 times more per game than the normal guys. At this point we’d take pros who hold themselves to a higher standard than guys just trying to fill the gap.

I thought there was some accountability with old ref crews…something like the crew with the least mistakes gets a bonus or the best games or something like that. Pretty sure the crew with the least mistakes was selected for the Super Bowl. That has to be motivation.

Clearly, none of them knew the rules and they would not listen to the Vikings coaches.

What is so sad about this is a billion plus business is fighting over what is no more than pocket change .

It could of gotten more out of hand, but thankfully the Vikings defense finally showed up for once. I think any fan base would have the right to be livid for that debacle, win or lose.

Ed Hochuli himself directly cost a team a game and there was no outcry. Do any of you know what that the refs are not only fighting over money (They are already the highest paid officials on a per game basis in any sport), but also accountability. Refs screwed up multiple times each last year. There was no screaming for their dismissal. There was actually nothing the NFL could do no matter how bad the refs were, it was in their CBA. If a ref screwed up a game in week 1 he was put out again in week 2. Screw up in Week 2, trotted on out in week 3. Rinse, Repeat.

You want the refs to be accountable? The NFL is trying but many fans are to shortsighted. They are the same people who will be screaming that old ref be replaced when they screw up and at that point it will be to late because for the NFL, right now, to get the old refs back would be to make them NFL refs for life with no accountability.

I’ve decided that I’m just not gonna watch the games until the real officials are back. If 1/4 of all NFL fans would join me next Sunday in not watching we would see the real officials out there faster than you could say “Suck One Goodell”. There is not enough room in my heart for all of the hate and anger I have toward Roger Goodell.

Officials need to get FINED!! Players and coaches get fined for some deserving but many insignificant things while absolutely NOTHING happens to a ref who makes a horrific call many time costing teams a game or worse a playoff game etc etc
There has to be penalties for refs who make blatantly bad calls on teams effecting the outcome of the game to hold them accountable just as Goodell pretends he’s doing by fining players coaches and the like.

The NFL wants that and the NFLRA does not, that’s part of the problem.

If a person can be ‘bullied’ into giving a team free timeouts and challenges, that person is not a professional referee. What the heck!?!?

Of course, Goodell would probably have all of his salary wiped out by the fines, which would cause him to have to leave the NFL and get another job. In other words, this approach would solve everybody’s problems!

Also as a Redskins fan I’ve always disliked Haslett and I think most people feel the same way, even players. Just promote Raheem already, we know he was brought here to replace him eventually. You can’t just stick with one defensive scheme all day if it isn’t even working from the start. Haslett either doesn’t know how to adapt or refuses to adapt.

After seeing the game I can see Belichick chasing the refs about review of kick, isn’t all scoring suppose tto be reviewed? As far as both Hairbaughs they should be delt with by the way they handled their sidelines and their actions Sunday.

Field goals are not reviewable and as was said repeatedly after the field goal it is considered good if it passes directly above the upright.

My sense it that coaches are used to a certain amount of explanation they get from refs but are not getting it from these guys. The most damaging comments about the refs came from Chris and Al doing the play-by-play. They didn’t hold back at that point. I think Al’s words were “this is getting ridiculous”. When these guys are doing it on nationally televised games it has a huge negative impact.
