Ryan says Revis has torn ACL, out for season

Jets' Revis is helped to his feet after injury in third quarter of play against Dolphins during NFL football game in Miami Reuters

This was expected, but Jets coach Rex Ryan confirmed at his news conference moments ago that cornerback Darrelle Revis has a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season, per multiple reports.

Revis went down without contact in yesterday’s win at Miami, and the initial reports were not encouraging.

It’s a huge blow for the Jets, as it would be for any team that lost one of the top 10 players in the league.

Ryan said he had a simple message for his team: “Everybody has to step up, … and that’s it.”

Kyle Wilson will likely step into the starting lineup alongside Antonio Cromartie.

The Jets 2012 season is officially over. Revis being gone makes that defense average and the offense already is terrible.

  2. shaggytoodle says: Sep 24, 2012 12:13 PM

Must of slipped on some extra hot sauce that was on the field.

You know what they say about karma

  3. giorgiom3 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:14 PM

I heard Tebow tried throwing a prayer Revis’ way, but it got intercepted.

  4. nyjets1017 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:15 PM

He knew randy Moss was comin to town

  5. nyyjetsknicks says: Sep 24, 2012 12:15 PM

And the small hope I had for the Jets season is gone. Let’s get this cold weather and snow going so I can at least snowboard.

  6. Marv says: Sep 24, 2012 12:16 PM

    Guess he shoul’ve held out…

  7. boopipes says: Sep 24, 2012 12:16 PM

Guess the turf put a little hot sauce on that ACL.

  8. dtr3e says: Sep 24, 2012 12:16 PM

Now thats just great. Not the news I wanted to hear. Hopefully we wont have to worry about him holding out next year then

  9. moronhater16 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:16 PM

This team wasn’t going anywhere anyway….

  10. sod61 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:16 PM

As a Dolphins fan I am sad to see players get hurt, especially a player like Revis who is a truly amazing CB in an era where passing rules, but I guess, per the previous report about Calvin Pace and Laron Landry, what goes around comes around if you rejoice in hurting the other team’s best player. Not surprising though coming from a Rex Ryan coached team. Enjoy yesterdays gift-wrapped win Rex because there will not be many more for you in the near future.

Never a dull moment for Jets fans

  12. prince5000 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:17 PM

yeah, but they still have Tebow

  13. coughlinsredcheeks says: Sep 24, 2012 12:17 PM

“Well thank God we have Mark Sanchez as our QB” – No Jets fan ever

  14. blacknole08 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:17 PM

Yikes! You never want to see a player if this caliber go down ever. Jets season is not lost but that stingy Jets defense loses that aura about them if you will with Revis Island gone for the season. I’m wishing him a speedy recovery.

  15. packh8er says: Sep 24, 2012 12:18 PM

That’s terrible. I hate the Jets, but you have to have respect for the #1 CB in the league.

  16. slightlyhyphy says: Sep 24, 2012 12:18 PM

No big deal. Just plug in Tim Tebow at CB. Problem solved.

  17. nfloracle says: Sep 24, 2012 12:18 PM

Goodbye playoff chances for the Jets this year. I bet Woody’s glad he didn’t shell out more money for Revis when he was making hold-out noises.

  18. ern215 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:20 PM

dam, they kinda needed him for sunday vs sf, that being said, i dont like revis and his arrogant attitude anyway.

  19. h3min1230 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:20 PM

Damn, that sucks. Even as a Pats fan, I respect his play.

    Get well Revis!

  20. ebr362 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:20 PM

Karma for the jests. They make public their desire to hurt Bush and their best player goes down without contact.

  21. mvp43 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:22 PM

Revis Isle, closed for the season.

  22. jmagnet28 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:23 PM

Do not mail away the season fellow Jets fans. This happens to everybody. This is nothing new. Suggs in Baltimore, Brady in 2009, Jammal Charles….it happens.

We have to move forward and recognize this teams issues were much deeper than losing Revis. Revis has nothing to do with the O.

And the fact of the matter is, a CB tandem of Cro and Wilson is still well in the top half of the league.

  23. omeezyx says: Sep 24, 2012 12:23 PM

Wow, tough break for the best CB in the league

  24. coreyandthejets says: Sep 24, 2012 12:23 PM

  25. dexterismyhero says: Sep 24, 2012 12:23 PM

So where is Revis Island located now?

  26. trefkennedy says: Sep 24, 2012 12:24 PM

Damn, smh he won’t get a contract extension

  27. jaltreality says: Sep 24, 2012 12:24 PM

Ouch. Not a Jets fan, but the league is far less entertaining when it loses one of it’s best players. Wishing the best for his recovery.

  28. pooflingingmonkey says: Sep 24, 2012 12:24 PM

I hate to see a great player like Revis being lost for the season, but this is a true schaedenfreude moment for me because I hate Rex Ryan and the Jets.

    This is a conundrum.

  29. wludford says: Sep 24, 2012 12:24 PM

So ends the Jets playoff hopes, such as they were, for the 2012-13 season.

  30. basballguy says: Sep 24, 2012 12:25 PM

Bet Revis is kicking himself for not holding out this offseason.

  31. stoptrippn says: Sep 24, 2012 12:25 PM

  32. delrmi05 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:25 PM

    Sorry to hear that,

Darrelle Revis is one of the best in the league and our Patriots-Jets rivalry will not be the same without it. Here’s to a quick recovery.

    Patriots fan

  33. cooklynn17 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:26 PM

Looks like he really should have held out. That’s okay, Tim Teblow can play corner back…..lol

Looks like that blitz heavy defense is going to have to take a back seat.

Get ready to get creamed by the 49ers.

    The Jets, an ongoing circus.

  34. xxsweepthelegxx says: Sep 24, 2012 12:26 PM

  35. warhammer7474 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:26 PM

Uh-Oh…you know what this means? New contract is necessary!

  36. illiniftw says: Sep 24, 2012 12:26 PM

Jeeze he gets injured after just suggesting he might hold out this year. Too bad because even non “elite” corners are getting away with holding this year! He could probably just piggy back ride every WR

  37. sedcontra97 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:27 PM

After the J-E-T-S tank, Revis will use his absence as leverge for demanding another new contract, and the circus will go on and on and on…

  38. rundmc20 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:27 PM

Wow, looks like karma had a busy weekend. But Revis at least you got all that money !!!

  42. thenewenglandpatriots12 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:30 PM

    Tough blow for the jets…

  43. brutus9448 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:30 PM

With revis the Jets looked very average. Without revis then the Jets are done. Now they should just jockey for a good draft pick so they can replace sancheezy.

  44. thenewenglandpatriots12 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:31 PM

Tebow should start at corner now

  45. hammerman1229 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:32 PM

The Jets weren’t going anywhere this season anyway. If you have to take Miami to overtime to beat them you’re an average team.

  47. gojags says: Sep 24, 2012 12:33 PM

  48. tolan04 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:33 PM

  49. alltee says: Sep 24, 2012 12:35 PM

    hey jets fans

    see you next year

  50. gochargersgo says: Sep 24, 2012 12:35 PM

Terrible news for the sport whenever one of the premier players goes down with such a serious injury. Doesnt matter if it happens to your favorite player or a player on your home team’s most bitter rival.

Also shows why you never laugh or poke fun at another team (i.e. Brady) when one of their stars goes down, because it isnt very much fun when it happens to you.

  51. cush2push says: Sep 24, 2012 12:35 PM

It sucks to see a player get hurt even if he’s a jet

  52. sweenj147 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:35 PM

In order for everyone to step up they would have to have another gear. The beginning of the end for another crappy Jets season.

  53. lgwelsh1 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:35 PM

    This is terrible news.

  55. Patskrieg dot com says: Sep 24, 2012 12:35 PM

Sucks. I’ve really enjoyed the Revis/Pats rivalry over the past few years. Hope he comes back next year ready to go.

  56. rickastleydancemoves says: Sep 24, 2012 12:35 PM

This a huge blow. The defense already has to blitz too often (Calvin Pace should be arrested for robbery), but they could afford to because of the cornerback play. Now that they lost Revis, they’re secondary will suffer dramatically.

  57. scytherius says: Sep 24, 2012 12:36 PM

God I hate to see that for any player on any team.

Come back 100% next season Darrelle! Hang in there.

  58. ikedavisnose says: Sep 24, 2012 12:36 PM

May we please have a moment of silence for the Jets season

(Not like they were doing anything anyway)

  59. deangelo23hall says: Sep 24, 2012 12:36 PM

  63. daknight93 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:39 PM

a huge blow to jets secondary…I hope Revis has a speedy recovery and he comes back next season fully healthy.

  65. doe22us says: Sep 24, 2012 12:42 PM

  67. nothimagain says: Sep 24, 2012 12:43 PM

Kyle Wilson that Rex boasted after one month of rookie preseason that his brother with Cleveland wanted him over Joe Haden. Kyle Wilson who couldn’t even get on the field his rookie year. That Kyle Wilson?

  68. davidhare says: Sep 24, 2012 12:45 PM

Does this mean he will old out again next year? Nice way for the Vikings to put the smack down on the 49er’s. Go Vikings!

  69. agcooney108 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:46 PM

big blow, quick and speedy recovery to the best db and defensive player in the game. the game needs you

  70. mataug says: Sep 24, 2012 12:47 PM

It was nice knowing you Rex, see you in the unemployment line in January.

  71. orthomarine says: Sep 24, 2012 12:47 PM

must have got some of that “sauce” on him

  72. sdelmonte says: Sep 24, 2012 12:49 PM

And there likely goes the seasons for Rex’s boys. Yes, we have seen teams lose key players before and somehow manage to win. But the Jets have looked so flat the last two weeks that I can’t say how they bring all the pieces together with Revis.

  73. jnbnet says: Sep 24, 2012 12:50 PM

As a Patriots fan, I don’t feel sorry for the Jets, but I do feel bad for Revis. Ryan is correct in saying everyone will have to step up. All teams deal with injuries. It’s the good teams that overcome them. I would rather play the Jets with Revis. The games are not quite the same with a major player missing. Like playing the Colts without Maning….not the same. Get well Revis. See you next year.

  74. saberstud75 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:50 PM

Maybe Revis can get back sooner if Ryan puts some “hot sauce” on it, like he was talking about before this game.

  75. stairwayto7 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:51 PM

Jets sucked with Revis! Team will be blown up after this 11 loss season.
Rexy will be on ESPN next season
Sanchez and the Almighty one Tebow will be gone
    Greene will be cut
    Holmes will be traded
Bart Scott will never be heard from again

  76. tommyribs says: Sep 24, 2012 12:51 PM

Wow – that is a shame, and it is also unlikely that when he does get back he will be the same guy next year, or even ever.

Corner is a very hard position to come back at once your knee gets blasted.

This is the one thing I hate about our sport. The Human Knee was not designed to play this game.

Get well soon Darrell, and this GIANT Fan does hope that you make a full and Speedy Recovery.

  77. mark0226 says: Sep 24, 2012 12:51 PM

Retaliation bounty for taking out Reggie Bush. How’s that hot sauce taste now Rex?

  78. whitecastleisafoodgroup says: Sep 24, 2012 12:51 PM

Top 10 player in the league? Eh, not sure about that. Regardless, it is a huge loss for a team that is already floundering.

  79. rhodeislandpatriotsfan says: Sep 24, 2012 12:55 PM

This is a terrible loss for the game. Revis is, without question, one of the top ten—and arguably one of the top five—players in the NFL.

Do Dolphin fans understand defense? Do they understand football at all?
Anybody who puts a hit on the ball carrier tries to hit them as hard as they can and make them not want to run it again. “Extra hot sauce” is slang term for exactly what they do every play. Everyone knows Reggie Bush is a sissy. When he gets hit he starts to tip-toe. When he is tip-toeing he is not running as hard as he can.
Finally, he got hurt when he ran his knee into a helmet inadvertently. Just stop with bounty crap, it makes you look stupid.

  96. samapoc says: Sep 24, 2012 2:30 PM

  97. cervetta12 says: Sep 24, 2012 2:56 PM

As a Jets fan, I’ll miss him cuz its safe to say theres no way there gunna extend him for mega money next year coming off that type of injury, these guys are never the same after torn ACL’s (See Vinny Testatverde) hopefully we can get a couple draft choices for him and move him into the NFC somewhere

  98. Mr. Wright 212 says: Sep 24, 2012 3:00 PM

They were 7-9 with him. They’re done. They’ve won two games that they shouldn’t have, and are about to lose at least 4 straight (schedule), so that’s that. Revis is a good dude, but it is what it is.

  99. dolphins512 says: Sep 24, 2012 3:23 PM

Phins fan here……I have to say I hate seeing any player have this type of injury. I’m thankful Reggie Bush wasn’t hurt worse yesterday and will only miss a week. This is a huge loss for the Jets.

  100. fincity305 says: Sep 24, 2012 3:43 PM

  103. jetstizzi85 says: Sep 24, 2012 4:20 PM

As a Jets fan, this is tough to hear especially because it is Revis but great teams are defined by things like this. Rex loves to have 6-7 DB’s on the roster due to this very reason so somebody needs to step-up now (Wilson). While he didnt do great against Miami, I have to have hope that he can provide some help along side Cro. Minus that late D Pass Int. call he held his own against Miami.

  104. frenchy121212 says: Sep 24, 2012 9:06 PM

  105. billsjetsfan says: Sep 24, 2012 9:11 PM
