As a Steelers fan, obviously I was rooting for the Pats. And just as obviously, we all know bad officiating played a huge part in this game. But I don’t think you can say officiating decided the game because the bad calls went both ways. I’ve never seen anything like it in all my years as an NFL fan. Thousands of people, in unison, chanting “Bullsh**” for several minutes on live TV! Goodell can flag Harbaugh and he can fine Belichick. But he cannot silence fans who are at the breaking point with this nonsense.

As for the outcome of the game, I agree that the Pats defense just petered out as the game went on. The offense did an admirable job of standing up to the Ravens onslaught. But the defense fell apart. On the other side, Flacco kept his cool and did his job. Great respect and deepest condolences to Torrey Smith. Amazing performance.

The win or loss (depending on your perspective) had more to do with the fact that the Pats probably faced one of the now better offenses in the league and not that the defense lost it.

Ask the Ravens, a very good defense can be exposed by a very good offense.

Last two weeks prior to this game, Titans and Cardinals, they aren't exactly juggernauts on offense.

Vince is right, there were plays to be made for the defense that they just didn't make. I think the game plan was to minimize Rice, which makes rushing the passer a secondary objective.

The shame is that the poor officiating took away from a slugfest between two legitimate heavyweights in the AFC. Both teams played well and with passion, seemingly like playoff football. It's impossible to say how the game would have turned out with better officiating, there were enough brutal calls on both sides for fans of each team to make a case that they got screwed. I believe these two teams will likely meet again this season with a lot more at stake - hopefully the regular officials will be back by then.

The Pats D had the Ravens on lockdown in the first quarter. They were dominant. I think they started playing soft after all the PI and holding calls. Also think the Ravens D had the same problem.

I was at the game. I'm a Pats fan, and all I can tell you is that one thing me and all the Ravens around me could agree on: that was the worst officiated game we've ever seen. There were horrible, game-changing calls against both sides.

I still give credit to the Ravens for outplaying us. They earned the W. Hopefully the officiating will be better if we play them again in the postseason. Then again, it could not get any worse.

Horrific, game-altering calls determined this game.

Um, no. Letting Joe and co. roll up 500+ yards of total offense was far more damaging than the few questionable calls that -- let's be honest here -- were negated by the same types of bad calls against the Ravens.

Baltimore's offensive line was one of the more questionable units going into the season, with players out of position, aging/underperforming vets, and inexperienced players. And even with those issues, how many times was Flacco sacked? None. He was barely touched.

As a Ravens fan, I thought the Pats defense was good. I think Wilfork was kept in check and he has been a Raven killer in the past. I am impressed with his grace and ability to take the blame himself for the loss. I think the Pat's D is much improved and will be a factor for awhile.

As far as officating, Pat's DB's were wearing recievers numbers all night grabbing and hitting early. How about none calls on offensive interfernce and push offs all night but no flag. The field goal was good by the rules suck it up New England you are 1-2 with a weak schedule you will bounce back.

Sometimes you New England fans come across as such entitled whiners it's incredible.

Two of those Ravens drives were definitely sustained by penalties, no doubts there.

That said, the Patriots had several opportunities to seal the game with Flacco's floaters. McCourty dropped two picks and Arrington tripped. If Arrington had snagged that ball, game over.
There was the crap call on Ngata when he fell on Brady. That was bad. Also, when Brady is trying to go No-Huddle, the whole offense was just sitting there, waiting for the ref to put the ball down.

Bah, it's tough to watch these games anymore. The ebb and flow of the game just isn't there, and it's affecting games. The refs are in over their heads.

In that last Ravens drive the Pats rushed no more than 4 on every single down and tried to cover receivers with their heavier slower linebackers instead of extra defensive backs. I kept waiting for a blitz to show itself, and put Flacco off balance and it never came.

I swear Dean Pees was calling these plays in from the Ravens sideline. This is the same over conservative playcalling that drags the Patriots down year after year.

Vince is a great player and he is definitely right. You can give up the yards, but you absolutely can not leave the endzone defenseless.

It seems to me that they didn't go after the QB in the end of the game. You can't let the QB be a hero at the end. Is this play calling?

He's right, the defense took a step back after looking promising the first two games. This is the youngest defense BB has ever had probably, and it's going to take time for it to come together. I mean Vince himself is the "elder statesman" and he was drafted in 04.
