Bears looking for running backs with Matt Forte still out

Matt Forte, Tommie Harris AP

Bears running back Matt Forte is expected to miss Monday night’s game against the Cowboys as he continues to recover from a sprained ankle, and the Bears are looking for help at the position.

Ryan Grant was in the Bears’ locker room when he got a call on Tuesday telling him he had an offer from the Redskins — an offer he accepted, meaning the Bears would have to look elsewhere.

The Bears also worked out running back Jacob Hester on Tuesday, the Chicago Tribune reports. Last week the Bears worked out running backs Steve Slaton and DuJuan Harris.

There’s no word yet on when the Bears expect to have Forte back from the ankle injury he suffered two weeks ago against the Packers. The Bears have said he’s making progress, and coach Lovie Smith says the injury is not the dreaded high ankle sprain. But Forte’s return date hasn’t been set.

They signed Michael Bush off the Raiders and he is as good as Forte in my opinion. What happened to him?

If they want depth and a change of pace guy then Slaton would be a good pickup, but Bush and Kalil Bell should do a good job til Forte gets healthy.

I hope the Bears are smart enough to realize the biggest asset they and have in a RB at this point is the ability to block in lieu of a crappy offensive line.

Trade someone for Tebow. He’s even thrown less INTs then Cutler so its a 2 for 1 deal!

Michael Bush is one of the better RB’s in the league, why do they need to sign someone so desperately again?

My guess is they will shelve him until after the bye. Which somewhat frustrates me because I am going to the Bears-Jags game in Week 5.

Sounds like Forte is hurt worse than they are willing let on.

I’ll be happy to offer them Chris Johnson from my fantasy football team. They can just have him.
