Getty ImagesAndre Carter is heading back to the Bay Area.
Carter, who grew up in San Jose, was an All-American at Cal and went to the 49ers as the seventh overall pick in the NFL draft in 2001, has signed with the Raiders.
Carter started the first 14 games of the season and had 10 sacks for the Patriots last year, but a torn quadriceps muscle kept him out of the final two games of the regular season and the playoffs. He’s been a free agent since then.
In 11 NFL seasons Carter has recorded 76 sacks.

Good fit. Good pickup. I apologize for not leaving anything for anyone else to say.
Really not sure what took so long.
Al Davis Forever!!!
Just Win Baby!!!
Welcome to the black Hole Mr. CARTER!!!
Great pickup for the Raiders. Good DE, and underrated pass rusher
Nice signing. The Raiders had NO pass rush this weekend. He’ll be a nice addition.
I hope he can line up in the secondary, cause we could sure use some help back there!
Good for him i was suprised he wasnt picked up sooner by a team that has d line problems like carolina
It cant hurt.
Good pick up big reg!! Hopefully he can put some heat on the opposing QBs to take some pressure off our secondary! GO RAIDERS!!!
Love it.
Go RAIDERS!
Hmmm.. another 3-4 defensive player with extensive knowledge of the Patriots D that was available (probably relatively cheaply) and we miss out on him.
Dear Mr. Grigson, we trade for Josh Gordy but we don’t go after this guy?
#confused.
if hes such a good pickup, then why is he available in week 4 as a free agent? after working out for so many other teams
good sign if he cant rush the quarterback then we need him, raiders d line is good against the run but they need more to rush the passer and hopefully this guy can help
Raiders probably waited on him to make sure he was physically all the way back. They got him at a reduced rate at this point in the season as well. Smart thinking on both fronts.
He should be able to help. The Raiders rush was actually pretty good against Pittsburgh, though. The fact we only got 1 sack had more to do with Roethlisberger moving out of the pocket and scrambling more than anything else. A less mobile QB would have been sacked at least 4 times in that game. Nevertheless, this move can only help.
I think Reggie is a closer…….he knows how to get the deal done!
Good sign big Reg I just hope he is ready to go we need the help
Im a pats fan and I’ll root for this veteran. He’s a good guy.
Good player. Hope he’s completely healed.
Explain to me again why he didn’t return to New England???? What did the Raiders give him?
it would be nice to know, in the first or second sentence, what position he plays.
Its not necessary to say Peyton Manning or Tom Brady is a quarterback. But for anyone who is not at elite, superstar status, please remember Florio’s general guideline to always mention NAME, TEAM, POSITION very early in a post.
Thanks.

If he can put some pressure on the quarterback he will help the secondary.
Carter said he also worked out for the Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams, with the Patriots in the mix, too. Ultimately, he decided to return to his Bay Area roots.
“I had a lot of friends who said, ‘You crossed over to the dark side,’ ” Carter said.
Good pick up for us! Glad to see Reggie working his GM role. I knew if we wanted a GM, which I definitely wished for, that the Raiders were going into REBUILD mode most likely.
Now we need to find help on the corners. Our secondary is hurting. The Roethlisberger still had a great passing performance, and these Raiders secondary could not prevent it.
With the departure of Kamerion Wimbley, it’s been rather boring. Hopefully this guy is the fire that burns twice as bright! A sense of and proof of urgency is sorely needed! The autumn wind….
