After creating a stir Monday by seemingly opening the door on a quarterback change and then trying to slam it shut, Eagles coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that without a doubt, Michael Vick is his guy.
At least until he isn’t.
Reid, citing “bad semantics” insisted “Michael is the quarterback,” according to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News.
Vick said he “doesn’t care about all that,” but there’s an unspoken reality. The Eagles have to make a pair of decisions on their quarterback in the coming months.
The long-term call is based on the $16.5 million they’d have to pay him next year to remain their starter.
The more pressing issue in September is the fact he’s turned the ball over nine times in three games.
Reid’s smart enough to know that anything short of a public display of support will create more doubt, so you can’t blame him for trying to put the fire out today.
It would work better if I wasn’t conditioned to believe someone’s first words most.
