Seahawks’ Clemons recognized as NFC defensive player of week

Although the refereeing debacle has generated the majority of headlines following the Seattle Seahawks’ Week Three win* over the Green Bay Packers, the Monday night game gave Seattle’s relentless, swarming defense the platform it needed to earn national recognition.

And it’s getting some. Seahawks defensive end Chris Clemons earned Week Three NFC defensive player of the week honors by sacking Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers four times in the 14-12 victory*. All four of Clemons’ sacks occurred in the first half. He became the first player to achieve the four-sacks-in-the-first-half feat since Kansas City’s Derrick Thomas did so all the way back in 1992.

Through three weeks, Seattle’s defense has allowed the fewest points in the NFL. Coming off the Week Three win* with a record now standing at 2-1*, the Seahawks will look to stay hot against Sam Bradford and the Rams in Week Four.
