Anyone saying he didn’t deserve to get suspended is blind. Lunges head first and hits him square with the crown of the helmet. Easy suspension.

Mundy should have been suspended, too. He is getting off way too easy for a completely illegal hit. Still praying for you to get better DHB!

The reason Mays was suspended and Mundy was not is simple- Mundy plays for the steelers, owned by Rooney.

Mara, Rooney and Kraft run this league, Roger is their puppet.

Rooney called it in, simple as that.

bottom line, he got fined the week before for a dirty hit…he did it again so he got fined ,and suspended a game…i am sure if he does it again next week when he returns, he will be fined and suspended multiple games…i can assure if Mundy from the steelers lays out another wr with a helmet to to helmet hit, he will be fined and suspended as well……..the real question is why are these guys leading with their helmets if they know it is not allowed.

Players get “game checks”, they’re paid for the games. The bye isn’t a game, they don’t get paid. They get 16 checks, more if they make the playoffs. This information has come directly from a current player on a current NFL roster.

You have just become my best friend. EVERYTHING that you said, is exactly what I have been telling everyone about this hit, almost to the T.
First off, Mays was coming in on this play aiming at Schaubs back, and wanting to disrupt the throw. At the last second (before 260 pounds of a man can stop his momentum) Schaub body changes direction.
But even still, at the point of contact, Joe Mays hits Schaubs high chest… NOT his helmet. I cannot believe they are suspending him for this game.

The hit was hard and due to the helmet to helmet rules deserved a flag, Schaub lowered his head into the hit.

The fine is too much, the suspension is uncalled for. Schaub was not hurt except for the piece of ear that his helmet tore off. Mays is being fined and suspended more for faulty equipment then anything else.

Had Mays followed through with full force and tried to hurt Schaub, his day would have been done. The league is over-reacting to a fast and hard hit that happened to knock off a helmet, and the helmet happened to take a piece of ear with it.

There have been some great hits even with the new rule change. I was not happy at first, but I have still seen some solid hits, and clean. The guys who can’t play within the rules are just not as good as those who can. They either need to hit clean and still get the big hit, or pay the piper for illegal hits. They can choose.

i agree with the pads hurting his ears and that is why he grabbed his head. and i dont think it was helmet to helmet.. but it was the way mays went at him. his arms are behind him. he launched. No, he didnt leave his feet, but he launched and led with his helmet. I dont care if he has NEVER been even penalized once in his whole life.. this hit, specifically, was illegal.biased eyes? are u a Broncos fan? And yes. i was watching the game and played it in slow mo many times. pause it at the point of contact and see his wings.. i mean arms.. are behind him..

you cant wrap up someone when your arms are behind your body at the point of contact.

Wow, what a surprise. The judge, jury and executioner is sticking to his guns on this one. I personally didn’t see anything wrong with that hit, 2 years ago and that would have been hailed as a great play (much like Ed Reed’s hit on Branch on Sunday night, even the announcers agreed).

Seems like the game of football will soon be how south park predicted last night.

@scarab21 yes I have actually. I played DE. Did you actually watch the hit? Play it in slow mode…rewind and re-watch. He is not a dirty player. If you read what I said, how would his helmet of come off any other way? His head whipped forward and the face mask of Schaubs helmet hit the crown of Mays’s. Go watch it and REALLY watch it without biased eyes. Sure it looks bad in real time. But the only reason that Schaub grabbed his head was because of the pads hurting his ears.

You obviously didn’t watch the play. He did try to wrap his arms around him. The dude has as clean of a record of any rookie playing in his first game in the NFL. He got fined last week, but this was not intentional. Read my earlier comment. Schaubs is taller than Mays, how could he have NOT LEFT HIS FEET and still had a direct helmet to helmet hit? Please everyone that has seen this once, explain to me how this is dirty? Joe Mays is 5’10″ tall. Matt Schaub is 6’5″ tall. That is a little less than the size of a helmet size. So when Joe Mays hits Schaub in the CHEST area with his head, which he did, with Schaub being taller than him, Schaub’s helmet bounced forward where his face mask hit the top of Mays’s helmet. This happening caused the helmet to come loose and the ear pad of the helmet cut his ear.

If this was SO DIRTY and illegal, why did Schaub only go off for one play? If you think this is a dirty play than you need to go watch pee wee football. This is a CONTACT SPORT here and we are treating a nice strong hit that WAS NOT a helmet to helmet hit (like Mundy to DHB which he didn’t get suspended for, and only got half the fine that Mays did). If you can sit there and tell me that you think this is worth a suspension, you have become soft. The hit was strong and aggressive, but he didn’t spear him, leave his feet, or drive Schaub into the ground.

I’m stunned that Ryan Mundy wasn’t suspended his hit was worse, they both deserve suspensions.
