Whether its government or pro sports new guys always make way for new employees. Allen and Mic are making room for guys with less athleticism but more football smarts. Bark underachieved at LSU and showed no signs of competing in is second year, despite little ahead of him on the depth chart.

Look for more of the same going into next year as well. The Raiders would have purged more but still have to field a team.

And this, ladies and gentleman, tells you all that you need to know about the current state of the Ram’s O-line
————————————————————-

1) It doesn’t say he’s going to be starting – easily could be a depth move there genius.

The LT is out, LG is on IR, center is on IR….been that way really since week 1 (saffold went out again week 2 though).

You just proved my point "genius". Our O-line is racked with injuries to the point we have to go out and take a guy off another team's practice roster

Fair points, guys.

I don't claim to be any kind of Raiders expert, but as an outsider it just seemed like they were cutting loose a lot of physically gifted players without much return. Perhaps I overestimated their talent.

I'm still not sure about Barksdale though, seeing as hulking OTs don't exactly grow on trees. But I know lots of teams cut bait with disappointing draft picks. We've experienced it in NE frequently.

As for the Carter signing, you guys are gonna love him. Class act and great football player. Hopefully he is healed enough to make a significant contribution.

As was already stated, there are no puzzling moves here. Barksdale didn't do anything of note in his 1 plus years, so he's gone to make room for a proven pass rusher.

As for the corners, they were all no good, and that's why they are gone. Van Dyke is fast. That's it. Is he a good football player? Hell, no. He can't tackle and wants no part of contact. Routt is a slot corner at best. He takes penalties because he can't cover man to man very well. Not only that but Routt lives in fantasy land. He said after the season ending game against SD last year, and this is no lie, that the defense was good. Yeah, real good D that was at the bottom of the league in almost every category. You can't win with guys like that.

The corners we had in Bartell and Spencer are upgrades over what we had. Injuries have just derailed the plan. We'll be fine when they are back.

Definitely some puzzling moves made by this new regime in OAK.

I’m sure guys like Barksdale and Van Dyke aren’t the most mentally gifted players, but I don’t see what’s wrong with holding on to an athletic specimen in hopes that his knowledge of the schemes and playbook will improve. Depth is always important in the NFL.

Look at their CB position. They get rid of Routt, Chekwa, Johnson and Van Dyke. Then Bartell goes down. Now they’re really hurting at a position that was a stength. Its a real head scratcher.

The fact that a lot of these cut players are getting claimed tells me that the rest of the league still thinks they’re talented. So maybe ‘Da Raidas’ are just trying to save money, I dunno.
-----------------------------------------

I wouldn't call any of these moves puzzling.

Barksdale became expendable when Willie Smith held up well in the Steelers game. Not to mention the Raiders need for a pass-rusher, which Carter will bring.

As far as what they've done with the secondary, they needed get rid them. Routt, a penalty machine, Chris Johnson doesn't even have a team, Van Dyke was reported as not working as hard late in camp as he was early in camp. Chekwa is still on the practice squad.

Routts removal was definitely a money issue, but the majority of these players were just underachieving. A message needed to be sent. I agree that the secondary is garbage now, but I'd rather have them go through these changes now than continue to pay players at a higher value than their production.

Definitely some puzzling moves made by this new regime in OAK.

I'm sure guys like Barksdale and Van Dyke aren't the most mentally gifted players, but I don't see what's wrong with holding on to an athletic specimen in hopes that his knowledge of the schemes and playbook will improve. Depth is always important in the NFL.

Look at their CB position. They get rid of Routt, Chekwa, Johnson and Van Dyke. Then Bartell goes down. Now they're really hurting at a position that was a stength. Its a real head scratcher.

The fact that a lot of these cut players are getting claimed tells me that the rest of the league still thinks they're talented. So maybe 'Da Raidas' are just trying to save money, I dunno.

Needless to say, the clock is ticking for you, Terelle Pryor.
