Patriots tight end Kellen Winslow reportedly asked to be released. Some have speculated that he simply decided he no longer could play with chronic knee pain.

Undermining that theory is the fact that he’s been playing with chronic knee pain for six years.

Further undermining that theory is the fact that Winslow hopes to land with a new team.

“I’m lookin forward to my next opportunity in the NFL and continuing to play the game I Love!” Winslow declared on Twitter.

And so it’s still not known why Winslow asked to be cut, especially since he also expressed gratitude to the team.
