The last line is from the writer, not a quote. When he says “it will be interesting to see if he gets that opportunity elsewhere”, he is basically saying Winslow is a fool and will not get much playing time elsewhere.

Maybe he can sign with New Orleans next week and try to beat out Jimmy Graham.

It seems the nfl has changed aot in the last for the vets like winow. Players just of the ncaa are more prepaired than ever to start even in the late rounds and undrafted guys. So i think there are many good points made here and as a hawks fan i did like kellen but the staff had some doubts and in the end got younger,healthier and cheaper with more long term potential in even moore.

Just speculation…….I’m wondering what he was like in the locker room and if that had any influence on this departure —- star mentalities aren’t tolerated, and there may have been a request for change in attitude followed by a request for release.

C’mon Florio you’re better than that. No need to insinuate that Winslow was complaining about playing time. Today on Boston sports radio, Mike Lombardi (knows Belichick and how he ticks pretty well) said that Winslow asked to be released because his knee would limit him in practice and Winslow knew that if he couldn’t practice he wouldn’t play. Guy just wanted to get healthy before giving it one more shot at playing next year when his knee heals up.

If it wasn’t for his father paving his way to the NFL, this kid would have been done after college. That is not what happened though, Kellen was in right off the bat because of what his father did while he was in the league. Everyone expected like father, like son, but what they got was a kid who didn’t have half of his fathers work ethic, and expected respect without earning it. If he gets another chance, It will be because of something related to his old man.

Ridiculous. At this point in his career he should be happy he had a job with a winning organization. Why sign with them then if youre going to complain about playing time? They have the deepest TE pool in the NFL. What did he think was going to happen there. Even if he did get alot of time, he was only going right back to the bench when Hernandez came back. Delusional to say the least and thats been the story of his life

Its also pretty clear that he ASKED FOR HIS OWN RELEASE. Not sure why all of the homer Patriot fans on the board are acting like Belichick gave the guy his walking papers. Obviously Belichick wanted the guy on the roster 2 weeks ago.

I personally dont see what the big deal is here. He is a veteran who has put 9 starting seasons in the NFL at tight end. If the guy feels as though he can start somewhere who are we to tell him he cant? He certainly is not going to be bagging groceries as some illuded to. Kellen Winslow will be starting in the NFL this year somewhere. I dont say this because I love the guy. I say this because he is talented, and guys with much less talent start at tight end in this league.

As a fan of Bill Belichick, I always laugh when people have such negative things to say about him. Sure he seems grumpy with the media, and he never says anything worth writing in an article, and he goes overboard in praising his next opponent, but look at it this way, he has never bad mouthed anyone. Say what you want about him, but when ever a player, or coach leaves NE, he takes the high road every time. I know some of you are getting antsy to type about how dumb I am because of the whole Mangini thing, but think about it, has he ever said anything bad about Mangini? He has chosen to never say anything good, but never anything bad. I suppose “hoodie” isnt quite the “classless jerk” that some people paint him to be, but those people wouldnt change their mind no matter what. He could donate his entire salary this year to needy children and it wouldnt change the opinion of those that dislike him

Winslow is an idiot – nothing like over-playign your hand. Carroll was right to cut him – who needs a prima donna Tight End who practices one day a week and makes demands.
