The Broncos replaced safety Quinton Carter in the starting lineup before the start of the season and now they’ll have to replace him altogether.
Carter will miss the rest of the year because of a knee injury. Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that Carter will have microfracture surgery on his left knee and the team announced that they have placed him on injured reserve.
Carter started the final 10 regular season games and both playoff games for the Broncos last season after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2011 draft. Carter finished the regular season with 56 tackles and a sack and intercepted Ben Roethlisberger in Denver’s playoff win over the Steelers. He’s played mostly special teams this year, though, as the Broncos have gone with Mike Adams and Rahim Moore as the starting safeties.
The Broncos also announced that they have signed a pair of players off their practice squad. Safety Duke Ihenacho was signed as an undrafted free agent in April and linebacker Mike Mohamed was a Broncos sixth-round pick in the 2011 draft who played a pair of games as a rookie last season. The Broncos had an extra spot to fill because of linebacker Joe Mays’ suspension for Sunday’s game against the Raiders.
