If the Chiefs decide to spread the Chargers out today, it’s with good reason.
San Diego enters this afternoon’s game with just three cornerbacks on the active roster, compromising their ability to run certain sets on defense.
Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego said coach Norv Turner has a plan on how to handle the shortage, but obviously hopes he doesn’t have to play the Chiefs with just two corners if one gets hurt.
Behind starters Quentin Jammer and Antoine Cason, the Chargers have just Marcus Gilchrist available in reserve for today’s game. Shareece Wright is out with a high ankle sprain suffered in the opener, and because they needed to sign an extra kicker this week, they were unable to shuffle practice squader Greg Gatson up as they have done.
They have used safety Eric Weddle to cover the slot, bringing Corey Lynch in to fill his spot.
But against a team that can move the ball, it’s a tough spot to be in.
