Kenny Phillips leaves game with knee problem

New York Giants Kenny Phillips knocks down Tampa Bay Buccaneers Vincent Jackson breaking up pass in NFL game in East Rutherford Reuters

Safety Kenny Phillips was one of the few healthy members of the Giants secondary.

The verb tense is key there.

Phillips went down in the first quarter, and trainers began working on his right knee as teammates gathered around. He eventually walked off the field under his own power.

The Giants defensive backfield has been thin all summer, and can’t afford any more absences. Stevie Brown replaced Phillips, as he was taken to the locker room.

The Giants announced he’s doubtful to return.
