Getty ImagesThe Chargers just opened the game with an impressive touchdown drive.
And they did it without running back Ryan Mathews.
Jackie Battle did all the running, the same week as general manager A.J. Smith warned that Mathews would be “somebody else’s fumbler,” if he didn’t get a better handle on the ball.
There’s no way they’re going to freeze him out forever, but they’re clearly sending a message. Philip Rivers dumped it to him for a 13-yard gain on the second possession, letting him back in from the cold.

Norv Turner….You are on my list!
Well, duh, there’s a reason, you think? Fumbles in the Red Zone, injury prone. Only give him the ball in Chief territory when Chargers have game in control otherwise why risk it? Time to start getting it Ryan, before your next contract.
Battle is awful. You wonder why Turner/Rivers are a losing combo.
